Top Horses Prep at Saratoga

With Saratoga now in full swing, several top horses have been seen on the track putting in their works for upcoming stakes races. MALATHAAT and ZAAJEL worked together this past weekend in preparation for the $500,000 Coaching Club American Oaks (G1) on July 24th.


Both fillies put in a four-furlong work breezing the distance in :48.05 for trainer Todd Pletcher.  MALATHAAT was ridden by jockey John Velazquez.


MALATHAAT is out of the grade 1 winner DREAMING OF JULIA is hoping to keep her five-race undefeated record intact. Four of her five starts are stakes races including two grade ones – the Kentucky Oaks and the Ashland Stakes.


MARACUJA was also on the Saratoga main track breezing a half-mile in :49.98 for trainer Rob Atras. Ricardo Santana Jr will be picking up the filly while her regular jockey, Kendrick Caramouche, recovers from a broken ankle.


Finally, ESSENTIAL QUALITY is prepping for the Jim Dandy on July 31st. Brad Cox's trainee has had two works over the Saratoga track. He breezed five furlongs over the weekend in 1:01.81. The $600,000 Jim Dandy Stakes (G2) is a nine-furlong race. Luis Saez was in the irons working the colt alongside 3-year-old BINGO JOHN.


ESSENTIAL QUALITY is also pointed at the $1.25 million RUNHAPPY Travers Stakes (G1) during the Saratoga meet. Trainer Brad Cox has been very happy with the colt's works on the Saratoga track stating, "From what I saw this morning, he's doing very well."
