22 to 1 Tom's International Tips
Vintage Stakes Group 2 – 2 years 7-furlongs
1 - Berkshire Shadow – Draw 5 - it's hard to pass up this horse. He's going very well with 2 wins from 2 starts but he starts slow out of the gate. The group 2 at Royal Ascot was a brilliant win. He was very strong at the end. I don't see with the added distance being an issue because his dam was a winner at distances of 7 furlongs to 1 mile and the sire is a leading sire of sprinters. He will be a big favorite.
The Acropolis – wins maiden on yielding ground and then 2 forgettable races in group 2's. Back to try a group 2 again, I think this suit for a better effort. He went for lead and sat up top. Moved at 2 furlongs left and then no finish. Benefit from that race vs the one at Ascot where he had traffic issues with a furlong left to run. The pedigree suggestions that race of 1 mile or less is his maximum distances. Time for this horse to step up.
2 – Lusail – Draw 3 – 3 wins and a third in not a bad start to his career. He's not winning by large margins. Last out at Newmarket, he was prominent with an easy early going was pushed at 2 furlongs and keep on. He will be with the leaders in this race. He's ran and won at 7 furlongs. This is the second foal from the dam and the sire was a top sprinter.
Lennox Stakes Group 2 – 3-year-olds and above 7-furlongs
12 – Creative Force – Draw 2 – no match in last vs Starman. That race had a top-notch field and to finish fifth was a good effort. He's race at a good pace and keep on to the finish. James Doyle is back in the saddle and he won 4 in a row before the last effort. A winner at group 3, he gets a chance to prove himself at a level he should succeed. I hope
5 – Kinross – Draw 13 – 2 races in Dubai were not great but came back in May to win a group 3 at Haydock. He raced in the rear and when asked to go, he did. The break been races is a bit of concern because he's a winner or nothing type of horse. He's run the distance 3 times with 2 wins. If ready, this could be the winner.
8 – Real Appeal – Draw 7 – this season, this horse has come into his own. 3 starts 2 wins and 1 third. Last race in a group 3, he wins racing midfield early then gets going then thought the horse hung left but he kept moving at end. For me, this is a horse really is figuring it out and the move up to group 2 will tell the tale of how improved the horse is.
Goodwood Cup Group 1 - 3-year-olds and above 2 miles
10 – Stradivarius – Draw 1 – has won this race 4 times and comes off a disappointing fourth at Royal Ascot. The gelding has races at distances of 1 mile to 2 ½ miles and won. 17 wins from 28 starts is pretty darn good and he gets his chance to win a fifth Goodwood Cup. Last race, Frankie Dettori commented that he had no clear run rounding the home bend. Did he have the horse but racing luck was not on his side? We will find out in this race.
8 – Sir Ron Priestley – Draw 9 – his was supplemented into this race at cost of $34k US. I always take special of the move like this. I don't they will win but if the owner/trainer think enough of the horse to pay the money, take a look. His wins are at 1 ½ miles or greater distance but has never run at 2 miles plus. He like the ground to be good or good to firm. He has won at Goodwood before beaten and lost to some very good horses. If he can get the distance, he has a good chance to spring an upset.
11 – Trueshan – Draw 2 – next to the favorite will be interesting in how Hollie Doyle places this horse early in the race. Are you wanting to follow Stradivarius or be in front of him? He's last race was on the all-weather (which he has won on before) and went off the favorite and showed that he did enough to beat 14 horses in a field of 20 but was outpaced at the 3-furlong maker then picked it up again with 2 furlongs to go. He has won going 2 miles last fall at Ascot so distance should be ok. If he runs his race, he also could win. Hollie Doyle is top jockey in England right now by wins but she has never won at Glorious Goodwood.
