22 to 1 Tom's International Tips
International Racing – Glorious Goodwood – Day 2 – July 28th. Track is currently rate: Soft
2:25 – Race2 - 7f Whispering Angel Oak Tree Stakes (Group 3) (Class 1) (3yo+)
17 – Vadream – Draw 7 – she had finished in the money all but one race and 1 mile is too far for her. A nice second last out at York in a group 3 when she chased the leaders had limited clear run then got going and went on. She was the favorite and should be one of the favorites here. Let's see if she can get some black type win today.
7 – Lavender's Blue – Draw 15 – she's getting some class relief here and dropping to a 7-furlong race, all her previous races were at 1 mile plus. She raced against some of the best runners lately and her only win is on the all-weather. Is this move going to get the best from her? Jim Crowley rides again and will get the best from her for maybe a win?
4 – Highland Princess – Draw 17 – she has 2 wins in a row and has not run a bad race this year. She has placings in all her races. Yes, this has been against handicap and listed runners, but she been going well. I see here at least getting a placing her based on her current form.
3:00 – Race3 - 5f Markel Molecomb Stakes (Group 3) (Class 1) (2yo)
6 – Fearby – Draw 4 – 2 wins and at fourth to start his career. Owners/Trainer must have been tempted to run a Royal Ascot, but I think wisely they used the Sandown listed race (win) as a prep for this race. In his debut at Newcastle he raced against Perfect Power (he did win either) who went on to win the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot. This is the only 2-year-old to be racing so far for the trainer and his record the last 14 days is 8 starts 4 wins and 2 placings. Picking the right spot again? The family is a bunch of speedsters.
3 – Boonie – Draw 10 – he's been on the improve with each race. Now, how can I write that because is started in class 5 and won, moved up to class 2 and ran second and then at Royal Ascot ran in listed race and finished third beaten by 2 ½ lengths. There are all pretty good races. The sire is a top-class sprinter winning group 1's in Australia. On the dam side, the relatives are all distance horses' of 11/4 miles to 2 ¼ miles who won group races. First foal but looks like the owners/trainer will have many options. Kevin Stott is back on board and rode her in the first 2 starts.
2 – Armor – Draw 11 – won his maiden and the finished fifth to Chipotle at Royal Ascot (same race that Boonie was in). He had every chance in the Royal Ascot race to win but didn't finish. With Ryan Moore back on board, I like his chances much better now.
3:35 – Race4 - 1m Qatar Sussex Stakes (Group 1) (British Champions Series) (Class 1) (3yo+)
6 – Tilsit – Draw 7 – I really like his last race, held midpack then kicked on home for the win on the outside beating Century Dream. The race before in France (Group 1) was a head lost and I will forget about his first start of the year in Saudi Arabia even though it was an ok run. He looks like a horse that will continue to improve and has won at Goodwood.
3 – Lope Y Fernandez – Draw 3 – ran at very good race last out against a superior horse in Palace Pier. He kept going and going. In his 8-place finish in the race before, he didn't have a clear run and the jockey held him back. With no chance to win or move up, why not. He won his first start of the year after finishing third in the Breeder Cup 1 mile race. Frankie Dettori has the mount and rode him at Keeneland. Good chance here.
9 – Poetic Flare – Draw 2 – the favorite here who's won one stinker at Paris Longchamp in a group 1 and the winner was St. Mark's Basilica. He was the favorite in that race. 8 runs with 5 wins at distances of 5 furlongs to 1 mile. Great race last time out winning by clear lengths. The Curragh race, he lost by a head and did some good running making progress with 2 furlongs left to run but maybe moved to the inside was not the right move. Anyways, he's the one to beat.
