22 to 1 Tom's International Tips

Glorious Goodwood – Day 3 – July 29 – Going: Good to Soft (in spots)

2:25 – Race 2 - 6f Unibet Richmond Stakes (Group 2) (Colts & Geldings) (Class 1) (2yo)

7 – Khunan – Draw 4 – 5 runs 1 win and placings in 3 other races. The reason I am drawn to this horse is he finished a good second vs Angel Bleu (he won at Goodwood on Tuesday) and his breeding suggests that he likes to good to soft as did the sire and dam. The last race at Royal Ascot was ok losing to Perfect Power by 1 ¼ lengths finishing sixth, his worst finish. The change to Hollie Doyle for a first ride I like, and this looks like a good spot to win. Big Price

1 – Perfect Power – Draw 6 – a winner at Royal Ascot over Go Bears Go (a winner next out) by a head. First out, in a maiden Newcastle (all-weather), he faced next out winners and a maiden win without much effort, except for getting out of the starting gate. He's breeding suggests that sire likes good to soft tracks, but the dam didn't.

6 – Gubbass – Draw 3 – a winner of his first 2 starts on good to firm going. Not winning by big margins but winning. Raced at the rear of the field in the last start and then came on strong. Closer to pace today? I think he will have to be. The breeding sire won on good going and the dam was unraced.

3:00 – Race 3 - 1m4f (1m3f218y) John Pearce Racing Gordon Stakes (Group 3) (Class 1) (3yo)

8 – Wordsworth – Draw 4 – will be the favorite and is getting some class relief with good runs in group 1 and group 2 races. Looking for a black-type win and this is the spot. Running on a very soft course last out, he got to see the backend of Hurricane Lane in France but beat everyone else. All he needs is a good trip.

7 – Third Realm – Draw 1 – finished fifth in the English Derby with a bump here and racing midpack. Outpaced when asked to move on at 2 furlongs out then moved better with 1 furlong remaining, problem was it was too late. A good to soft track that day and this horse ran and won on a soft track at Lingfield beating the Derby winner Adayar who just beat Mistriff and Love last weekend. Breeding on the sire and dam side indicates good to soft going shouldn't be an issue.

1 – Yibir – Draw 8 – coming into his own in the last 2 runs. Over the soft going at Goodwood a nice race finishing second to Lone Eagle. Then to Newmarket in the last race with a win. They keep running this horse at greater distances and he's been improving overall and facing some of the top horses along the way. Good chance for a piece here.

3:35 – Race 4 - 1m2f (1m1f197y) Qatar Nassau Stakes (Group 1) (British Champions Series) (Fillies & Mares) (Class 1)

1 – Audarya – Draw 6 – it's hard for me to get past the Breeder's Cup winner. She ran a strong second to Love last out and other winners have come out of that race. Back with her own sex, she's run strongly against some top horses like: Tarnawa (Breeder's Cup Winner). She's won on good to soft going but soft going she only got 1 second with 2 tries. She was really trying last out for her first start of the year and the owners/training have bigger things in mind for this horse. A win here will set her on her way.

4 – Joan of Arc – Draw 4 – get race at Chantilly last out. She chased the leaders until the 1 furlong plus out and then asked to go and she did. Her worst race this year was at Leopardstown where she was off a step slow at the gate, rushed up to third racing 3 wide and backed out with 1 furlong finishing sixth. I mention this race because she can't be used that hard at the early stages. Better results in all her other races with 3 wins and 1 second and the sixth from 5 races. Ryan Moore returns to the saddle.

3 – Empress Josephine – Draw 1 – not one of her better efforts last time out at Royal Ascot with an eighth finish. She generally breaks out for the lead and in this case went the other way at the 2-furlong maker. She ran two clunkers this year, one after her maiden win and the last one. She's a late developing three-year-old starting her career in March 2021 so she is still learning and maturing. She won on heavy going before and will have Frankie Dettori along for the ride, it's his first time on the horse.
