WHITMORE and FIRENZE FIRE last met in the Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) at Keeneland. The victory for WHITMORE was a fan favorite during the Breeders' Cup weekend.

Nearly nine months later, the two multimillionaires will meet again this weekend in the $350,000 Albert G. Vanderbilt Handicap (g1) at Saratoga on July 31st.

WHITMORE hasn't had the best year this year going 0-for-3, but as trainer Moquett puts it, "He's 3-for-3 in effort." Which is perhaps why the fans love him so much. He tries his hardest everytime. WHITMORE will be ridden by Ricardo Santana, Jr. The now 8-year-old gelding has raced 41 times with seven graded stakes wins and $4.4 million in career earnings. Plus, he loves the six furlong distance. He excels at it.

FIRENZE FIRE is now 6-years-old with four starts since May. He won the True North Stakes (G2), the Runhappy Stakes (G3) and finished second in the John A. Nerud Stakes (G2). Fourteen of FIRENZE FIRE's victories have come at Belmont Park. He won the Sanford Stakes (G3) as a two-year-old at Saratoga. This will be his third shot at the Vanderbilt having placed fourth in both 2020 and 2019.

The field for the Vanderbilt includes several more good runners, such as MISCHEVIOUS ALEX, but these fan favorites are sure to draw attention this weekend for the Jim Dandy race card.
