22 to 1 Tom's International Tips
Glorious Goodwood – Day 4 – Friday, July 30 and Saturday, July 31 – Going: Good to Soft
2:25 – Race 2 - 1m Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes (Group 3) (Class 1) (3yo)
1 – Baaeed - Draw 2 – undefeated in 3 starts all at the 1 mile distance. With winning margins of 4, 7 ½ and 1 ¼ lengths in his races, he is doing what he had to do to near perfection. Last out at Newmarket, he won a listed race even though he dwelt at the start, sat last but never out of touch with the leader. Asked to go and he did. He was eased at the finish. Jim Crowley rides again and he will be the favorite and win.
7 – Tasman Bay – Draw 8 – faced group 2 company last out at Royal Ascot and finished second. Today, he drops to this level and shorter race. He's only win was at the 1 mile distance but on all-weather so he has to step and prove that he can win on turf. I am going to give him a chance to finish in a placing spot. Win? No.
8 – Passionova – Draw 6 – a winner on both all-weather and turf, this 3-year-old is also stepping up from lower type races than my top choice. A steup in distance too but he kept going in the last race suggesting a extra furlong is no big deal. 2 wins from 3 start and the switch to Hollie Doyle may do just the trick for a chance here. The dams only other runner won at 1 ½ miles.
3:35 – Race 4 - 5f King George Qatar Stakes (Group 2) (Class 1) (3yo+)
9 – Glass Slippers – Draw 5 – the Breeders Cup winner in the sprint by a ½ length was a very nice race. She has also run against top company in group 1 or 2 races of recent. No races this season but they are not going to put in here if she isn't ready. Her first last year was a disappointing fifth to Battaash at Royal Ascot. 17 runs with 7 wins and 5 of those wins in stakes company. She will be in the rear at the early part of this race and then move forward, she can get through gaps and between horses without issue. Strong finisher.
11 – Dragon Symbol – Draw 11 – 3 wins 3 seconds facing the best sprinters. He catch the top 6 furlong horse in Starman last out. Now they drop him to 5 furlongs and he won his only start at the distance but not at this level. That was his last win. With his form, he should be placing in this race.
2 – Art Power – Draw 1 – keeps trying faces the best but best finish is third. Can he punch through with a placing this time?
4:10 – Race 5 - 1m4f (1m3f218y) l'Ormarins Queen's Plate Glorious Stakes (Group 3) (Class 1) (4yo+)
1 – Euchen Glen – Draw 5 – this is a 8 year veteran of 39 races in group 1 company down to handicaps. As he got older, he's gotten better because early in his career, he raced almost exclusively in handicap races. 1 mile is the short distance he's run at and runs of 2 miles plus. He won last out in a listed race at Sandow and his other win this year was in a group 3 race at Sandown. Group 3 races appear to be his top limit. He's won on all type of track condition from good to firm to heavy but never won on the all-weather. If the big favorite doesn't show up, he looks good for a win.
5 – Mogul – Draw 1 – he the best horse on paper but not in form. With only one placing in three races this year, Aiden O'Brien is giving him some class relief to see if the horse still wants to run. His last win was in December 2020 in Hong Kong. He's raced in the Breeders Cup and in France. I really think this could be his finally chance or maybe retirement is in the offering. This is similar on what he did with Order of Australia, he won a minor race in Ireland and nothing in his run at Goodwood.
9 – Without A Fight – Draw 7 – ok in listed race at Ascot in May and then a break. Raced in April at Newbury running second. The trainer(s) are doing good over the past 14 days with 29 runs and 7 wins at 24%. Good spot for a fresh horse.
Saturday, July 31
3:05 – Race 4 - 1m6f Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes (Group 2) (Class 1) (3yo+)
1 – Wonderful Tonight – Draw 7 - scratched for the race at Ascot because of the track condition (good to firm). She wants moisture in the track for her best runs. She should get that here. Beat next out winner Broome in last race at Royal Ascot and has won the last 3 races. Now back against fillies/mares, this is the perfect spot to move forward for the owners/trainer ultimate goal of the Arc in October. She wants the distance and I see her winning for the 4 time this year. She will be a big favorite.
3 – Believe in Love – Draw 2 - won last out at Leopardstown in a group 3 race. She raced at the rear on the rail then took wide with 2 furlongs to run and sweep up into the lead. She runs her last race; she gets up for a placing here.
8 – Tribal Craft – Draw 8 – started the season with a second and then a win then at Haydock, she finished fifth in a group 2. In that race, she raced from the rear on the far side, as too good with 2 furlongs left and pushed and nothing left. All her races have been over soft going. She beat my second choice in a group 3 this year. She good enough to get into the placings.
BONUS SOUTH AFRICAN RACING:
Saturday, July 31 – South Africa Racing from Hollywoodbets Greyville – GOLD CUP DAY
Race 3 - PROSPORT INTERNATIONAL DEBUTANTE (Grade 2) Turf 2-year-olds 1200m (6 furlongs)
6 – Remember When – one race one-win good racing time. Many in here have many more times with some success. Raced green so only can improve.
12 – Sashay Away – a win and second in 2 races. Favorite in maiden win and going away.
1 – Twice the Trip – running well enough to get a piece here.
Race 4 - EPOL UMKHOMAZI STAKES (Grade 2) Turf 2-year old's 1200m (6 furlongs)
7 – Gallic Chief – interference in last 2 races. Better racing luck, better results
12 – It's About Time – continues to show improvement. Maybe here to have a nice win.
2 – Dyce – the one to beat. He really hasn't run a bad race yet. 1 win 2 seconds and 1 fourth.
Race 5 - THEKWINI STAKES (Grade 1) Turf 2-year-olds 1600m (1 mile)
1 – Supreme Quest – wants distance and had run well after a break. Last race at 1300m won by 3 ½ lengths. Jockey switch to good rider after win.
4 – Kailene – in form and runs well at this distance
5 – Aisling – has been some of these at lesser distances but can he get the extra distance and win?
Race 6 - PREMIERS CHAMPION STAKES (Grade 1) Turf 2-year-olds 1600m (1 mile)
10 – Waterberry Lane – stuck in traffic last out and still won. Nice to see from a 2-year-old. Should be able to repeat.
3 – Safe Return – gelding and returned as a winner. Should be competive here.
I can't pick between: Good Traveller, Honokalani or Anytime Champ for the third spot but frankly anyone out of these three could win.
Race 7 - MARSHALLS WORLD OF SPORT GOLD CUP (Grade 3) Open Turf 3200m (2 miles)
14 – Nebraas is getting weight from the favorite African Adventure, so I am picking him. He's in form and will be battling to the end.
2 – Before Noon – my top choice stablemate will be there at the end to make it a battle.
1 – African Adventure – the favorite but giving up too much weight to my choice. But this is really a wide open race even though we have a big favorite.
Race 8 - MERCURY SPRINT (Grade 1) Horse at Weight-For-Age Turf 1200m (6 furlongs)
2 – MK'S Pride – first ride for the jockey but he has ridden for the trainer 5 times with 1 win and 3 placings. 2 thirds last 2 races the trainer added blinkers last race. Best merit rating of the season.
8 – Chantyman – first ride also for the jockey. He's finished second time now vs other in this race.
11 – Kasimir – could win or just be good enough to finish in the money. Strong form off last races.
Race 9 - HKJC WORLD POOL CHAMPIONS CUP (Grade 1) Horse at Weight-For-Age Turf 1800m (1 ¼ mile)
4 – Got the Greenlight – winner at distance. Failed in the top race (South Africa's Vodacom Durban July the race dates back to 1897) of the year running third. Record is 17 starts 8 wins and 8 places. One to beat.
5 – Catch Twentytwo – hasn't won since January 2021 but has placed in 5 races this year. Win, I don't think so but placing yes. 11 starts 3 wins and 6 placings.
8 – Crown Towers – never won over 1900m (they keep trying) this is the type that will win or will finish in the back of the field.
Race 10 - KUDA GOLD BRACELET (Grade 2) (Fillies and Mares at Weight-For-Age + Penalties) Turf 2000m (1 ½ miles)
2 – She's A Keeper – winner of 2 in a row easily vs Filles & Mares. Faced open company and she failed. Right spot for the big favorite.
13 – Summer Pudding – winner of 2 in a row and 4th vs open company. Should give top one a race.
1 – Wisteria Walk – ok runs, can pick up a piece here.
