Multiple graded stakes winner, OWENDALE, has passed away from colic. Trainer Brad Cox confirmed the loss of the INTO MISCHIEF son yesterday, August 11th. He is owned by Rupp Racing.

OWENDALE last raced at Oaklawn, finishing second in the Oaklawn Handicap (G2) on Apeil 17th. He had been working at Churchill Downs as of June.

OWENDALE was a three-time Grade 3 winner in his 3-year-old season of 2019. He won the Stonestreet Lexington Stakes (G3), finished third in the Preakness (G1), took the Ohio Derby (G3) and the Oklahoma Derby (G3). He was a Breeders' Cup Classic participant and then went on to finish second in the Clark Stakes (G1).

In 2020, he debuted with a win in the Blame Stakes at Churchill. He placed in the Alysheba Stakes (G2) and the Pimlico Special Stakes (G3). He finished third in the Clark (G1), the Razorback Handicap (G3) and second in the New Orleans Classic Stakes (G2). He also ran in the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile at Keeneland.

This year, he ended his career with a fourth in the Oaklawn Handicap (G2).

OWENDALE was bred by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings. He sold as a $200,000 yearling to John Wentworth, consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency in 2017 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale.

OWENDALE passes with a record of 6-5-4 out of 23 starts and over $1.5 million in earnings.
