Woodbine hires new Racing Director

On Friday, August 13th 2021, it was announced by Woodbine Entertainment that Tim Lawson would assume the role as Director of Thoroughbred Racing, effective immediately. Lawson was Woodbine's previous manager of racing development and stabling operations. 

Lawson previously worked as assistant racing secretary for Thoroughbreds and Standardbred racing at the Canada-based track. His work at Woodbine dates back to his University days. His career in racing began in the Ontario area where he grew up, and through University, he got his first summer position at the Woodbine track doing crew work and maintenance. 

Lawson is the son of Woodbine CEO Jim Lawson interned for Keeneland Sales and Racing before taking up various positions at Century Downs. He worked as racing secretary and project manager for Century Mile.

Legendary Canadian artist Jim Cuddy and his band will offer a live performance at Woodbine Racetrack on Sunday, August 22, 2021. The special occasion is the 162nd Queen's Plate, the first leg of the Canadian Triple Crown. The Queen's Plate is regarded as one of Toronto's must-see events of the summer. The Queen's Plate is North America's longest continuously-run stakes event.
