Following her defeat in the Grade 1 Apple Blossom Handicap in May, trainer Brad Cox decided to give MONOMOY GIRL a brief break from training. Shortly after, the team noticed that she was experiencing some muscle soreness and strains. She was sent to WinStar Farm and turned out for 30 days with daily handwalking.
As of today, and nearly three months later, she is now lightly galloping for the first time since going to the farm. WinStar trainer Destin Heath has been working with her for the past four years and told MyRacehorse that he is pleased with her movement. She will next be assessed by Dr. Wes Sutter to ensure that she is moving at the best pace.
While it does not appear that MONOMOY GIRL will make it back to the Breeders' Cup this year to defend her titles, it is apparent that she's not slowing down and we can expect to see her back on the track by next year.
