Profile of a Pacific Classic Winner

Play the favorite – the post time choice has finished first or second in nine of the last 10 Pacific Classics; winning six and coming with a place payday three times.

Be fast, maybe the fastest out of the gate. Five of the last 10 Classic Champs went wire-to-wire, one ran co-pilot and pair were third at the first call.

Most likely want to have a post from the middle out. Eight of the last 10 to grab the hardware wore the green and white five or higher.

Subscribers' Bonus Commentary:

TIZAMAGICIAN ran the top, last race speed figure and has put in three sharp workouts since. EXPRESS TRAIN has hit the board in nine of 10 on a fast track, it never rains in Southern California. ROYAL SHIP has been much sharper since moving to dirt from grass. INDEPENDENCE HALL knows how to win, hitting the tape first in four of 10 races and one for one at Del Mar.

Profile of a Del Mar Handicap Winner

Play the favorite – sort of. The race time chalk has finished second in five of the last 10 Del Mar Handicap, while winning three times. Don't get carried too far from the post time favorite, the typical winner went off at a little more than 7/2 odds.

Keep an eye on trainer Philip D'Amato's horses. He's won four in a row and six of he last seven. The trainer sends the last two champions RED KING and ACCLIMATE along with SAY THE WORD to this year's Del Mar Handicap.

Think tortoise with a late turbo charge, not hare. Seven of the past 10 winners were fourth of further back at the three-quarter-mile marker.

Middle out for post position as well with six of 10 wearing a six or higher. The last five left from gate seven or out.

Subscribers' Bonus Commentary:

UNITED's jockey/trainer tandem of Flavien Prat and Richard Mandella have won four of seven together. RED KING ran a last race speed figure above par for this level. ARLOW is one for one at Del Mar, has the resume but concerned about the distance. ACCLIMATE has the chance to take them from wire to wire and should be able to control the pace early.
