The Profile of a Champagne Winner – Breeders' Cup Juvenile/Kentucky Derby

Belmont Park Race 8

First all – some brand name horses are past winners, names like JACKIE'S WARRIOR, TIZ THE LAW and UNION RAGS to name a few.

Play the Favorite in your Exacta. The public's choice finished first five of the last 10 and second in another three.

Stalkers/Closers had a slight edge in the last 10 with six winners running fourth and back at the quarter mile marker.

Post position doesn't appear to have much of an impact.

WIT is one for one at Belmont and is trying a route for the first time, a 26% winner for trainer Todd Pletcher. GUNITE has never missed the board in five races and is getting better. JACK CHRISTOPHER won his debut and put in a bullet work in his last, love the bullet and go angle. MY PRANKSTER is the most expensive field and blew away the comp in his debut.

The Profile of a Santa Anita Sprint Winner – Breeders' Cup Sprint

Santa Anita Race 8

It might be a sprint, but you don't want to be too fast early. None of the last 10 champions went wire-to-wire. In fact, nine of the last 10 to hoist the Sprint trophy ran third or back at the quarter pole. Mind you, many of the field were five deep and none with more than seven horses.

Whatever you do, don't play the chalk to show. The favorite finished first four times, second and fourth three times each.

Keep an eye on trainer Peter Miller's horse as he's won three of the last four, including last year with C Z Rocket.

DR. SCHIVEL has won four in a row and is three for three at the distance. CZ ROCKET ran the top, last race speed figure and could be better in his third start after a layoff. FLAGSTAFF has won four of nine at Santa Anita, just three of 12 elsewhere. COLT FICTION has never finished out of the money at the distance or at Santa Anita.

The Profile of a Rodeo Drive Winner – Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf

Santa Anita Race 9

Play the favorite in your exotics and don't be afraid to put her on top. Five of the last 10 post-time favorites won, two finished second and another collected show dough.

Gate three appears to be the place as its home for five of the last 10 champions.

Early pace/tactical speed helps with eight of the last to collect the Rodeo hardware in the first four at the first call.

LUCK's record on all-weather and his performance on a firm turf course suggest she'll be tough to beat. DOGTAG has a quartet of seconds in her last four races and is just a head away from winning both at the distance. GOING TO VEGAS has won three of her last four races, including the top, last race speed figure. NEIGE BLANCHE could have the strongest late kick, worry is that the race might not be long enough.

The Profile of an Awesome Again Winner – Classic

Santa Anita Race 10

Past winners: California Chrome and Mucho Macho Man

Chalky Champs with six of the last 10 to win going off as the favorite and at average odds of 3/5. Overall, the post time choice hit the board in nine of the last 10. The lone miss cleaned up the superfecta, finishing fourth.

Outer posts have won six of the last 10. Outside can be relative as some of the fields were skinny. Nonetheless, the typical winner much closer to the further post than the rail.

Early speed is helpful, but not necessary. Six of the last Awesome Again titleholders were within the first three at the quarter pole. However, that is a little deceptive in fields of five or six horses.

TRIPOLI is a ½ length from winning four in a row and just ran his best race. TIZAMAGICIAN couldn't hold on versus TRIPOLI in his last start but could benefit by shortening by a quarter mile. MEDINA SPIRIT has a tough time beating a weaker field in his last. His workouts say he'll be ready but doesn't pass many, doubtful he gets the lead here. IDOL hasn't missed the board in six starts, including three at Santa Anita. A bullet 6 furlong workout on September 26th was faster than his fractions in his last start.
