THE PICKS:

Terry "Hollywood" Hay's Handicapping

Race 8 - First Lady Stakes

#3 - Althiqa is a Grade 2 who came in from Dubai to race and win at both Belmont and Saratoga, both Grade 1 wins. She has the highest last race speed rating, and her best turf speed is faster than the avg winning speed.

#10 - Princess Grace has won four races in a row the last won at today's distance and as a matter of fact only lost one race in her career when she ran 2nd. She has three bullet works in a row the last one in preparation for this race.

#13 - Viadera has won four out her last five races losing one after being blocked and steading. She is trained by Chad Brown who wins 28% of the races when shipping in to a racetrack.

#6 - Regal Glory has won eight out of fourteen races on the turf and has won five out nine races at today's distance. The only race she has lost this year she was bump pretty hard at the start.

Race 9 - Claiborne Breeders' Futurity

#1– Double Thunder won his last race closing from mid-pack at a mile and now stretches out to 1-1/16 which I think fits her running style. He has a good workout on 02Oct at Belmont 5f ft 1:01.1 B 2/25

#5– Don't Wait Up won his last race leading all the way at 6 furlongs, now we will see if he can carry his speed to 1-1/16 mile. He has the highest last race speed and two bullet workouts at 4F 04Oct Bel 4f ft :47.3 B 1/11 - 26Sep Bel 4f ft :46 B 1/64.

#12 – Kevin's Folly ran a decent 3rd in the grade 1 Hopeful. The trainer wins 22%: Sprint-Sprint-Route. He has a good workout 02Oct Kee 5f ft :59.2 B 2/55.

#9– Great Escape won his last race at Churchill Downs improving his speed rating by 9 points. The trainer wins 37%: Sprint-Sprint-Route. His best dirt speed is fastest among today's starters (tie) and he has Jockey Tyler Gaffalione who in the last 7 days has this record (19 5-3-1). He has a Sharp 4F workout (Oct-02) 02Oct Kee 4f ft :48 B 15/87.

Race 10 - Keeneland Turf Mile Stakes

#10 – Order of Australia won the BC Mile the only race in the USA he has competed in. He has the highest speed figure at today's distance.

#7 – Pixelate won her last race on the turf at Kentucky Downs at a mile. He has Tyler Gaffalione who in the last 7 days has this record (19 5-3-1) and some decent workouts.

#11 – Diamond Oops has finished 63% in the money during his career winning 36% of the races. He seems to like the turf but has never gone this distance in a turf race but has run second on the dirt at today's distance. He has the highest last race speed rating (tie)

#6 – Ivar has won a Grade 1 at Keenland on the turf at a mile and has Joe Talamo in the irons. The trainer wins 40% when he puts blinkers back on.

Swiss Army Shawn's Selections

Race 8 - First Lady Stakes

PACE PROJECTION:  There are some other speed horses in here but there is one main speed horse #9 Blowout who should get the lead rather easily.

#10 Princess Grace - This horse is stepping up in class as she has never raced a grade 1 but this horse is a half a length from being a perfect 7 for 7.  Should get a nice trip right behind the likely leader #9 Blowout.  Loves the distance going 3 for 3 and ran once over the track which was the race she lost by a half a length.

#3 Althiqa - Came over to the US and won both starts and looks tough to beat here. Trainer Charlie Appleby has done great with US invaders this year winning 5 grade 1's

#7 Daddy Is a Legend - Will be flying late and has won 3 of 5 races career at Keeneland. Has raced 5 times in Grade 1 races and has been in the trifecta in 4 of them.

Plays:
$24 win #10
$1 Exbox 3,7,10
$1 tribox 3,7,10

Race 9 - Claiborne Breeders' Futurity

PACE PROJECTION: Lots of speed in this race. The #13 Classic Causeway will only have one choice and that is to gun for the lead. The #3 Stellar Tap, #5 Don't Wait Up, and #10 Mac's time are a few others who want to go.

#7 American Sanctuary - You get a nice 12/1 ML price on the horse that would have beat the ML favorite in this race last time out if there was a whip. He also went really wide last race. With a better trip and the whip this horse could win this race at a nice price. Also, gets plenty of speed to run at.

#9 Great Escape- Another that will come off the pace. This horse looked like in previous races that he could go longer and will get the chance here. Trainer Brisset hits at 23% from a sprint to a route.

#1 Double Thunder- Has won 3 of 4 career races, no other horse in this field has won more than once. Gets Paco Lopez, the rail and speed to run at.

Plays:
$20 win #7
$1 exbox 1,7,9
$1 tribox 1,7,9

Race 10 - Keeneland Turf Mile Stakes

PACE PROJECTION:  A good amount of speed in this race that could set the race up for stalkers or closers.

#7 Pixelate- Beat some of these horses in the last race that he won.  Will get plenty of speed to run at.  Likes this distance winning 3 of 7 and finishing in the trifecta in all 7 races.

#10 Order of Australia- Returns to Keeneland for the first time since winning the Breeders Cup Mile last November.  Probably the best horse in the race but I'm always concerned about the traveling.  Will have other speed to deal with it as well.

#6 Ivar- Will add blinkers after coming off a 4 month layoff. Should get pace to run into.  Working out ok and has won 5 of 9 career races.

Plays:
$20 win #7
$1 Exbox 6,7,10
$1 Tribox 6,7,10

22 to 1 Tom's Tips

Race 8 - First Lady Stakes

As strong as a Breeders Cup race

3 – Althiqa

Winner of last 2 at Belmont and Saratoga – Grade 1

Not winning by big margins but winning

Jamie Spencer coming over to ride – first time up

Has run on heavy to good to firm track conditions with positive results

Concern: Who will be her target to run at? Stablemate has been the one in the last 2 races

13 – Viadera

Winner last out vs grade 2 types at the Spa

Only third start of the year with first start a needed race finishing 4th

Interesting choice of Chad Brown to use Florent Geroux

Record at 1 mile is 4 wins from 5 starts

            Rotten post draw

2 – Empress Josephine

In this race for Aiden O'Brien of one reason "Win your In"

She has 2 wins, one a grade 1 at the Curragh

No match for Alcohol Free, Snow Lantern or Mother Earth, et at Royal Ascot

At Goodwood, she faced top class bunch, Lady Bowthorpe, Zeyaadah & Audarya. In the race until the 2-furlong maker (second) then backed up and was eased when had no chance in the final furlong

Much better last time out, outpaced early and then moved forward at 3 furlongs but had no chance to get to the leaders. Received her best rating of the season in this race 110 which indicates she getting better at the right time?

5 – Hendy Woods

Winner with room to space at Kentucky Downs last out

Record at 1 mile is 6 starts 4 wins and 2 seconds

Won on a yielding track and Mark Casse has her ready to go here

Needs to be close up to have a chance at the end

Race 9 - Claiborne Breeders' Futurity

3 – Stellar Tap

Show speed in both starts but got bumped when making a bid last

Favorite in grade 3 Iroquois with a 5th beaten 3 lengths

            Learning experience?

Won at Saratoga with a nice 7-furlong race, dueling in the first half then drawing away even though he was a bit wide

Good, even works coming into this race

Dam was a winner on the turf at distance race and placed in others

            Sire is Tapit

8 – King Curlin

First race, beaten in turf race at Kentucky Downs beaten by 1 ¾ lengths.

Move late, 5 wide with a strong move

            Work at Keeneland is ok

Dam was a stakes winner on the turf at distances

            Sire is Curlin

5 – Don't Wait Up

Win in the muddy at Saratoga last out. In hand as the favorite

Strong works a Belmont for this race :47.3, 46 and 47.

Dam race once and finish 4th. First foal

Sire is Upstart at winner at distance of 5 ½ furlongs to 1 1/16 mile, he's other offsprings are  doing very good

13 – Classic Causeway

Strong winner at Saratoga for first start by 6 ½ lengths at 7 furlongs

Steady works with the last one at 1:00

Dam was a stakes winner, and she has produced 7 starters with 4 winners

            Sire is Giant's Causeway

Yet another horse who's drawn the outside post

Race 10 - Keeneland Turf Mile Stakes

7 – Pixelate

Winner last out at Kentucky Downs 1 mile race, rallied from 10 lengths to win by 2 ½ lengths in grade 3 race

Record at 1 mile is 7 starts 3 wins 2 seconds 2 thirds

Won at both 1 turn and 2 turn mile races

Is he a grade 1 horse? He gets to prove it here

Oh yea, his owned by Godolphin

4 – Space Traveller

2 good races but not winner efforts (yet).

Second at Woodbine grade 1, in a 1 mile race with problems at the start and lugging at the end

Fourth at Arlington grade 1 Mr D

A winner at York in June but disappointing efforts at Ascot and Goodwood facing some of the best milers in group 1 company

Due to improve and Daniel Tudhope returns to ride

            Should get decent odds

10 – Order of Australia

Winner of Breeders Cup mile at Keeneland last year

Only one win this year vs group 2 at 7 furlongs at the Curragh

Good effort at ParisLongchamp in group 1 losing by 1 ¾ lengths last time out

2 disappointing efforts running in group 1 company at 1 mile this year in England

Horse for course? Draws outside again.

            First ride for John Velazquez

Also, a "win you in" horse for this race otherwise he would have to get lucky to get into the mile race this year

            Maybe overbet!

13 – Somelikeithotbrown

Post position will be a challenge

Will show speed from the outside and will need to for position on first turn

Since he wins at longer distance, made a wide trip ok?

The partnership of Jose Oritz continues with his record of 3 starts and 1 win and 2 seconds
