FOLLOWING SEA piloted by Joel Rosario took the $250,000 Vosburgh (G2) going six furlongs on the dirt at Belmont. The colt earned a "Win and You're In" post in the $2 million Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) on November 6th at Del Mar.
FOLLOWING SEA is trained by Todd Pletcher and went wire to wire beating the four horse field by 4 ¾ lengths. FOLLOWING SEA is now 2-for-2 over the dirt course after finishing third in the H. Allen Jerkens Memorial on August 28th at Saratoga behind JACKIE'S WARRIOR and LIFE IS GOOD.
FOLLOWING SEA was hustled to the front and required little urging to break away from the field in the stretch.
"We just wanted to take advantage of the outside post and see how everything unfolded," Pletcher said. "He broke great, put himself right on the front and it seemed like he was in hand throughout. He looked like he kicked on pretty well and Joel wrapped up on him pretty late."
"I just helped him out of there," Rosario said. "It looked like he broke really well and he put himself on the lead. I thought he liked that and he ran a big race."
Though undecided, he is looking towards the Breeders' Cup Sprint as his next start. "We'll play it by ear and see. I'll talk to the guys at Spendthrift and we'll come up with a plan. It's got to be in play," Pletcher said.
Trainer Kelly Breen plans on sending FIRENZE FIRE and is still planning to send him to Del Mar for the Breeders' Cup Sprint. "It's going to be a hot pace. Whether it's JACKIE'S WARRIOR on this horse [FOLLOWING SEA], no one is going to have an easy lead in a slow pace. It's going to be a heated event," says Breen.
FOLLOWING SEA is a Kentucky-bred by RUNHAPPY and is his first graded stakes winner.
