FINITE ran off the pace going a mile at Churchill Downs to score her third Grade 2 stakes race to her resume.
The MUNNINGS filly had ankle surgery in September and came out as the 6-5 favorite for the Chilukki. FINITE sat near the back of the back in the nine-horse field. RISKY MANDATE set the pace with quick opening fractions of :22.75 and :45.59.
FINITE drew even with RISK MANDATE and SANENUS near the quarter pole, running well off the rail. RISKY MANDATE started to fade as they came down the stretch, but the 10-1 SANENUS put in a good fight. FINITE hit the wire 2 ½ lengths ahead, kicking clear. The final time was 1:35.53. SANENUS held onto second with WHOA NELLIE following in third.
The filly was ridden by Ricardo Santana Jr. who said, "We had a great trip rating behind the pace. I think at this stage of her career she is just getting better."
The Asmussen trainee had a five-race winning streak as a 2-year-old in September 2019 to February. Her stakes victories include the Grade 2 Golden Rod, Rags to Riches, Silverbulletday, and the Grade 2 Rachel Alexandra. She had ankle surgery after a disappointing fourth-place finish in the Grade 2 Fair Grounds Oaks.
Her next stop could be California for the Grade 1 La Brea at Santa Anita.
