Having a son win the Kentucky Derby and the Breeders' Cup Classic in one year helps the earnings numbers. Having another son in his maiden performance clear the wire 9 ½ lengths ahead of the competition helps too. Oh, and you can't forget the powerhouse filly, GAMINE, and there are actually several more high performing INTO MISCHIEF progeny that have been highly impressive on the racetrack this year. Put it all together and you have a stallion with Northern Hemisphere progeny earnings of $19,994,720, eclipsing the North American single-season progeny earnings record set by TAPIT in 2016.

General manager of Spendthrift Farm, Ned Toffey, is happy to say the least, "Tapit is a wonderful sire, so to eclipse his record is something special. To have these kinds of numbers, you have to be consistent and you have to be brilliant. Into Mischief just gets one good runner after another."

INTO MISCHIEF's the co-leader by number of grade 1 winners with MORE THAN READY, SPEIGHTSTOWN, VIOLENCE and WAR FRONT. His 2020 stats also include:

  • Top sire by winners - 174

  • Top sire by number of black-type winners - 28

  • Top sire by number of black-type performers - 58

  • Highest percentage of black-typer performers from runners - 14.5%

Finally, he is the sire of a top performing sire. GOLDENSCENTS leads his class by progeny earnings at $5,997,930 with 92 winners and six black-type winners. He has three graded stakes winners.

As AUTHENTIC gets settled into the stallion barn at Spendthrift and the eyes of racing start to look ahead at May, you can't deny that LIFE IS GOOD is looking pretty good for Derby day. Of course, there's a lot of time between then and now.
