The Fair Grounds meet kicked off this
Thanksgiving Day with the running of the black-type $125,000 Thanksgiving
Classic Stakes.
BOBBY'S WICKED ONE contested the pace on the
inside, running against LANDESKOG, but fell back to fourth by the half-mile and
stopped. LANDESKOG, showing good speed running with BOBBY'S WICKED ONE but
overcame to lead by the half-mile.
NITROUS, a son of TAPIT, was bumped twice early and ran in fifth through
the first quarter making his way up second, going three-wide at the turn, and
rallied down the stretch to get the win. MANNY WAH ran back in sixth after the
start and through the half-mile. At the stretch, he swung six wide and finished
with energy but not enough gas to catch NITROUS. MR MONEY BAGS was also bumped
early and chased the pace on the outside. At the turn, he shifted three wide
and fought down the stretch but was just out three lengths behind the winner.
LANDESKOG was the early favorite and showed good speed but when asked in the
upper stretch, he just couldn't get to the front of the field.
The final finish was NITROUS a length and a
half, followed MANNY WAH and MR MONEY BAGS two lengths back. The final time for
the 6-furlong race was 1:09.78.
