Sam Houston Race Park will open for their 27th live racing season on Friday, January 8th. The barn area opened on November 28th for training. The track is open Monday-Saturday for morning training from 7am to 11am.
A record 2,300 stall applications have been received and processed. The track will welcome top training including Steven Asmussen, Mindy Willis, Bret Calhoun, Dallas Keen, Karl Broberg, Danny Pish, Kari Craddock, Mike Neatherlin and Brent Davidson. Mike Maker, Ron Moquett, Todd Fincher, Robertino Diodoro, Austin Gustafason and Frank Lucarelli will also have stalls.
The 2021 Thoroughbred Stakes schedule will offer $2.4 million in purses. This is up over a million and a half from last year. The stakes season will kick off with the Houston Racing Festival on Sunday, January 31st with the Grade 3 Houston Ladies Classic and the Grade 3 John B. Connally Turf. The $200,000 Texas Turf Mile was added last year and drew a highly competitive field.
The Quarter Horse meet will run from Friday, April 23rd through Saturday, June 12th.
