Going into the weekend West Point Thoroughbreds and Marvin Definer's undefeated juvenile colt, JAXON TRAVELER, was the favorite and for good reason. At Pimlico, he romped to victory winning by 10 lengths in his debut on September 25th. He then won an allowance on October 23rd going to the lead and taking the win by four lengths. Not being Maryland-bred, he couldn't run in the October 24th Maryland Million Nursery, so he was pointed to the Maryland Juvenile Futurity for Maryland-bred/sired juveniles.
In what appears to be his running style, he went to the lead to set the pace with quick fractions of :22.56 and :45.61. SINGLINO pressed running two wide down the backstretch and moving to the four path on the drive. AIN'T DA BEER COLD stalked early as well but didn't have enough gas in the tank in the stretch. LATIN SPICE was slow early, settling way back in sixth ten and a half lengths off the leader. JAXON TRAVELER hit the wire three quarter lengths ahead of SINGLINO. On the stretch LATIN SPICE moved six wide and hurried to a late bid finishing third.
JAXON TRAVELER is trained by Steven Asmussen and ridden by Johan Rosario. He upped his earnings to $120,762.
