Going into Saturday's Grade 1 $200,000 Fort Lauderdale at Gulfstream, Pletcher expected to get the win with his favorite, HALLADAY. However, it was his longshot, LARGENT, that was the horse for the course.

There was a need for speed on the turf at Gulfstream with quick fraction being ticked off . HALLADAY and FACTOR THIS went to the front from the outside at the break. Fractions were :23.22 and :46.34. HALLADAY and FACTOR THIS ran aggressively a good length or two ahead of SOMELIKEITHOTBROWN and DOSWELL. BREAKING THE RULES and LARGENT both shook loose from the pack on the top of the stretch. LARGENT powered through to take the win followed by DOSWELL finished second with BREAKING THE RULES in third. SPOOKY CHANNEL finished fourth. The top four horses were double digit odds sparking a lucrative superfecta worth $17,333.70.

LARGENT scored his first graded win for Pletcher and owners Eclipse Thoroughbreds and Twin Creeks Racing Stables. "Very salty field, indeed, and very fast fractions. [Largent] is a horse that's generally laying up close. I just told Paco, ‘It looks like there's a lot of pace, just try to sit in the pocket,' and he delivered a very good ride," said Pletcher.

LARGENT improved his record to 6-3-0 out of 9 starts with career earnings of $314,470. He is by INTO MISCHIEF and out of the UNBRIDLED mare LIFE IN SEATTLE.
