Horseplayers in northern parts of the country watching the $100,000 King Glorious Stakes at Los Alamitos on Sunday might feel a little bit jealous. Although most of the weather around the US is expected to be mild for this time of year, it will be just about perfect at Los Alamitos Sunday afternoon, sunny with a high around 78 degrees. It will likely be in the mid-60s by King Glorious post time.

A group of 10 will be looking for the perfect trip in perfect weather in the Los Alamitos ninth race on the Sunday card. Unpredictable two-year-olds will race 1-mile on the track better known for quarter horse racing. The field gets started with a long sprint down the front stretch in a two-turn race that's favored outside horses that typically run mid-pack.

In the 18 races at the distance, meet to date, just one horse found the winners' circle leaving from posts one through three, the rail is winless. Meanwhile, the typical winner ran third at the quarter pole and second after the first half-mile.

Playing the averages, horseplayers might look for horses from post four and out with strong mid and late pace figures to find potential winners. We analyzed the pace numbers and here is how the race could play out.

GOOD WITH PEOPLE (PP: 8 ML 7/2) heads to the lead out of the gate, as he's done in four of his five starts (second in the other). Longshot WEDDING GROOM (PP: 2 ML 30-1) rides co-pilot, pressing the pace from the inside and trying to keep GOOD WITH PEOPLE from passing him before the fist turn. POSITIVITY (PP: 4 ML 3-1) and ASCOT STORM (PP: 7 ML 3-1) battle for third and fourth with the rest of the field patiently positioned to make their moves. (Point of note, POSITIVITY is also scheduled as of this writing to run in Saturday's Los Alamitos Futurity.)

Things don't change too much by the half. GOOD WITH PEOPLE remains on the lead, ASCOT STORM starts to make his move, getting past WEDDING GROOM and is neck and neck with POSITIVITY behind the leader. PLAY CHICKEN (PP: 10 ML 6-1) gets a shoutout from track announcer Michael Wrona as he joins the leaders.

The field starts to bunch up as they head for the final turn. Longshot WEDDING GROOM starts to back up on the inside while jockey Mike Smith readies MISTER BOLD (PP: 6 ML 5/2) to make his move out of the turn for the second time down the front stretch.

GOOD WITH PEOPLE stays on the lead after the first 6 furlongs but his lead is shrinking with step. POSIITIVITY is to his outside but is struggling to get by. ASCOT STORM is trying hard and Smith is gobbling up ground on the leaders with each stride. GOVENOR'S PARTY (PP: 9 ML 50-1) starts to make some noise as the longest shot on the board.

ASCOT STORM and POSITIVTY sneak past GOOD WITH PEOPLE in the final sixteenth mile and both hope to have enough to beat MISTER BOLD to the wire, but they don't. Smith and MISTER BOLD pull clear by a half-length to take the title with ASCOT STORM and POSITIVITY in a photo for second and third. GOOD WITH PEOPLE hangs on to cleanup the superfecta, just edging PLAY CHICKEN and TACOFLAVOREDKISSED (PP: 3 ML 6-1).

Hopefully, our forecast is as perfect as the weather. Well, at least for the first four.
