Caddo River Wins the Smarty Jones Stakes

CADDO RIVER made his first start around two turns today at in the $150,000 Smarty Jones Stakes at Oaklawn. He took the field gate-to-wire to win 10 ΒΌ lengths over COWAN with BIG THORN coming in third. He covered the mile in 1:38.19. 

The colt is owned by Shortleaf Stable and is the fourth colt to enter the Road to the Kentucky Derby for trainer Brad Cox. He has ESSENTIAL QUALITY with 30 points, CADDO RIVER with 10, MANDALOUN with two, and SWILL with two points.

There are three more Kentucky Derby prep races hosted by Oaklawn this spring including the $750,000 Southwest Stakes (G3) on February 15th, $1 million Rebel Stakes (G2) on March 13th, and the $1 million Arkansas Derby (G1) on April 10th.
