GULFSTREAM PARK PICKS FOR SATURDAY 1/23 PEGASUS DAY
#11 Holyanna- Definitely one of the wildcards of the race but will take my chances and look for
value with Irad Ortiz Jr. up for the ride. This horse has only ever run at Woodbine and was very
competitive there. Had a year off from October of 2019 to October of 2020 came back and
finished second now will be going after another 3 months off. Workouts are good and are
getting better each time to get ready for this race. This will be the first start with the new
trainer Jose Corrales who gets his horses ready to win right away hitting at 22 % on the first
start for him. He also does good with horses that off been off for more then 2 months hitting at
18%. Post position is a concern but again may provide value here.
#1 Apurate- The ML favorite who should go right for the lead from the inside post. Looks like
the pace will be favorable for her. The jockey who rode her to her only victory in October Luis
Saez returns to ride her for the 3 rd time here.
#5 Orencia- Has won 2 races in a row one on the dirt and the last race on the turf. Stepping up
in class here but has been impressive in these 2 victories combining to win by 10 ½ lengths.
Will up near the pace and could work out a nice trip.
Suggested plays - $20 win 11 $1 Exbox 1,5,11 $1 Tribox 1,5,11
#3 American Law- Trainer Danny Gargan has been on fire and loves to fire 2 nd time out hitting at
36%. Had some trouble in debut with a better start and less traffic should fare well here. In
debut lost to talented Todd Pletcher trainer horse in Donegal Bay and the horse that finished
second Simovitch won next time out. Will also get an extra turn and should benefit from that.
#9 Ridden With Biden- Has real good speed and might catch a fast track here. Last time had to
run on a muddy track at Parx. In that race ended up getting caught and losing by a neck. Could
be the front runner here again and thought would be a huge advantage.
#11 Dynamic One- Has not had a good start yet in 2 career starts despite finishing 2 nd last time
out. First start hit gate and had no impact at all finishing 9 th out of 11 horses. Last race started a
step slow then went up to the lead before losing the lead and hanging on for 2 nd .
Suggested plays- $20 win 3 $1 Exbox 3,9,11 $1 Tri 3/,2,9,11/ 2,4,9,11,12
# 8 Bray- Always right there closing fast at the end. The big question always is there will there
be enough pace for him to win. Looking thru there seems to enough horses that would be
willing to go or press the pace. Could have as many as 4-5 horses be close to the pace so I
would say yes there is enough. You can be confident in the fact that you know Irad Ortiz Jr. will
work out a nice trip.
#4 Scanno- Has finished in the exacta 5 of 9 llifetime races from this distance. Gets a nice post
and should not be to far off the pace. Finished ahead of the ML favorite #11 Junkanoo 2 starts
back and missed out on the victory by ½ length. Last start finished 4 th behind Bray who finished
second place. Like I mentioned above pace of the race could dictate who gets the better finish.
#5 Juulstone- After 3 poor performances on the dirt to start his career he has switched over to
Turf and ran really well. He got 2 nd in his turf debut before breaking his maiden last time out on
turf. This is a big step up but if he likes the turf as much as it appears could be a factor.
Suggested plays- $20 win 8 $1exb 4,5,8
#1 Performer- One of the locks of the day. Has won 5 of 7 career starts and is undefeated on a
fast dirt track 4 for 4. Performer has too many advantages in this race to lose. Has the Inside
post, speed, and the class of the race Oh and did I mention there is not much speed in this
race. Here is your winner!
#2 Eye of a Jedi- 2nd start after a 5 month break. This horse seems to keep getting better gets a
nice post and should be able to finish well behind the speed of Performer.
#5 Phat Man- Another classy horse that will be closing. I don't see Performer losing but if he
does this might be the horse.
Suggested Plays- $50 win 1 $5 ex 1/ 2,5
#2 Emaraaty - Will be closing at the end in a race that seems to have a lot of pace. Has run well
since coming to the US. This is his first race in over 15 months. The trainer does fine with horses
off a 180 + day layoff hitting at 27%. Looks like he is working out really well.
#12 Olympic Runner- I will go with another closer since I'm expecting a hot pace. Don't love the
outside post but could work out with the running style.
#7 Opry- Could be part of the hot pace but is versatile enough to sit off as well. Another one
that has been off this one for 9 months. Working out well.
Suggested plays - $20 win 2 $1 exbox 2,7,12
#3 Ghazaaly- Went with one of the firsters as there are a bunch of horses debuting here. Not a
bad idea to go with Pletcher and Saez on a first time starter. I think this horse has the post
advantage over the other competition I see in here as all of them are on the outside.
#9 Full Court Press- Has been working out really well getting ready for debut. Junior Alvarado
has been on fire as of late.
#10 Stage Raider- Another first time starter. This one is working out well and has Jose Ortiz and
Chad Brown who hits at 20 % with first time starters.
Suggested plays-$20 win 3 $1 Exbox 3,9,10
#9 Niko's Dream- This is a very wide open race i like that this horse has had
success at the distance and the track. Also, you get the hot ridden Junior
#6 Evil Lyn- Has been running really well and you get Flavian Prat on the turf. Will
be on or close to the lead from the start
#4 Vigilantes Way - Another one that should be close to the pace. 4 wins out of 8
starts. Should have something to say on who wins this race.
Suggested plays- $20 win #9 $1 exbox 4,6,9
#11 Traipsing- The controlling speed of the race. Will have to go and get over
quickly from the outside post.
#8 Delta's Kingdom- Needs to be used in all exotics as he will come late to get a
#1 Always Shopping- Has won 2 of 3 over the Gulfstream turf course. Will be
there at the end.
Suggested plays - $20 win 11 !exbox 1,8,11
#4 Thissmytime - Will be close to the pace or on the lead. Likes the track and distance.
#7 Sally's Curlin- Will be closing into what I expect to be a pace. Another one that has had
some success at the track and distance.
#1 Dream Marie- Always there at the end 8 of 16 career starts has finished in the exacta.
Suggested plays - $20 win #4 $1 exbox 1,4,7
#1 Doswell- Has good speed from the inside post.Has finished in the exacta in in 7
of 8 career runs.
#4 Temple- Always there at the end. 15 of 22 career runs has finished in the
trifecta. You get Irad Ortiz Jr. who will try to get a good trip through traffi0c.
#6 Sir Sahib- Has been right there but can't get the win lately.
Suggested plays - $20 win 1 $1 exbox 1,4,6
#6 Largent - Love this horse always right there never finished worse then second out of 9 races
and has 6 wins. 2 of those 3 runner up finishes were by less than a head. Has won 4 out of 5
races at Gulfstream. How did this horse go off at 16-1 last time? I would love it if we really get
the ML of 9/2 here. Can't go wrong with having Paco Lopez riding him for the second straight
#8 Anothertwistafate- Should be part of the pace or right off of it. Only 3rd start on the turf
won the last one. Has been running against will tough competition. I like playing jockey Joel
Rosario on the turf.
#12 Social Paranoia- Always comes flying at the end. My concern as far as winning would be is
there enough pace in here? I still would want to use this horse in exotics as it seems no matter
what the pace is he will be there at the end to get a piece.
Suggested plays - $50 win on the #6 $2 ex key box 6/8,12
#10 Code of Honor- I can't imagine everybody leaves the #4 Knicks Go
completely free on the lead like what is projected. Remember jockeys and
trainers handicap too it just takes one horse to disrupt the plan of the #4. If
they do leave him, can he get the distance? I will go with another classy and
battle tested horse in the #10. The horse is always there and with his running
style the post shouldn't hurt him too much. He has had decent success at
Gulfstream with a win and a 3rd in 3 starts.
#1 Sleepy Eyes Todd - This horse reminds me of Largent, just a runner and will
compete no matter the track or competition. This horse has had nothing stay
the same. The last 9 races he has run at 9 different tracks while also having 9
different jockeys. This will be the second straight race at Gulfstream but
unfortunately will have a different jockey again. The consolation prize isn't too
bad tho as he will get Jose Ortiz up.
#5 Jesus' Team- Loves Gulfstream and has handled this distance before. Will
be there at the end no matter what odds he goes off at.
Suggested plays - $1 exbox 1,5,10 $1 Tribox 1,5,10 $30 win 10
Good luck to everyone!
