STORM THE COURT and ANOTHERTWISTAFATE were the early pacesetters ahead of SOCIAL PARANOIA and LARGENT. COLONEL LIAM broke free from the traffic on the second turn of the Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational and accelerated down the stretch to beat stablemate LARGENT by a neck. CROSS BORDER kept Pletchers' other trainee, SOCIAL PARANOIA, from making it a 1-2-3 sweep for the trainer.

Although the colt is bred for the dirt, he hadn't seen much success until switching to the turf last summer. When he debuted on the turf at Saratoga in July, he won an allowance by 2 ¾ lengths. Then he had a rough go in the $500,000 Saratoga Derby Invitational Stakes but returned with a victory in the Tropical Park Derby on December 26th.

Entering the Pegasus, he had no graded stakes experience but was ended up the crowd favorite at 5-2. He was ridden to victory with Irad Ortiz Jr aboard. This was Ortiz second win since the 2019 Pegasus Turf in which he rode BRICKS AND MORTAR to victory on a very wet and rainy day.
