Strong rains are predicted to hit Southern California over the next several days, causing Santa Anita Park to make the decision to cancel racing for January 29th. In anticipation of large amounts of rain, they also shifted two turf stakes a week. The $200,000 San Marcos (G2T) will be delayed to February 6th and the $75,000 Baffle Stakes will run February 5th.

Santa Anita has been particularly cautious about racing in the rain after many believe the conditions in 2019 with multiple breakdowns and equine fatalities was caused by the training and racing over wet surfaces. The track will also schedule additional races throughout the next week to make up for the cancellations.

Racing is set to resume Saturday with the $100,000 Robert B. Lewis Stakes (G3) and the $200,000 San Pasqual Stakes (G2), both of which are on the dirt track.
