Top pick: #4 The Ref- Simply a pace play as I don't think there is any other
horse going for the lead in here. This is also the horse's 2nd race off of a 3
month break.
#2 Crimson Cloud –
The horse with the most wins in the field.
Will be close to the pace and might sit in the cat bird seat if the #4
comes back to them after setting the early pace. Will get the leading rider of
the meet so far in Kyle Frey.
#1 Perfect Come
Back- This horse has faced a lot better but is in horrible form right now.
Maybe at this level and the inside post if they decide to send the horse maybe
he competes here.

#4 The Ref – this is a crazy race of non-winners in 2020-2021. I am taking the
only speed I can find in the race. The Ref should have an uncontested lead, the
question will be if he can hang on at the end. A controlled pace race is key to
finally get a win for this horse.
#6 – Rey Coliman –
drops, ok race last out. Needed the race.
#7 – Kid Arcade –
Get 10 lbs off and even works for return. Put a longshot in here, why not in
this race!

The inside four horses look about the same to me. In my opinion, putting
favorites on top at this low of a level is a mistake. So, I am taking #2
Crimson Cloud. The 10-year-old (wow!) won the last time leading jockey Kyle
Frey rode her, why not again?

#6 Awesome Amanda - Will show speed from the outside post in a short 6 horse
field. Should be on the lead or right off since there are maybe 2 other horses
in here that could go. This horse has loved Golden Gate so far going 2 for 2.
Has had off for 3 months but has been training really good. The trainer Dan
Blacker hits at 36% after a 60 + day layoff.
#1 Persuasive Lips- Another one with some speed but also
could sit off the pace if need be. Looks like this horse would prefer this race
to be 5 or 5 ½ furlongs not 6. Has a
high percentage jockey and a trainer who also does good with horses running the
2nd time after a break of 45-180 days hitting at 40%.
#5 Urban Diva - Has faced tougher recently and I didn't see
much else in the field after the top two.
Can be close enough to the pace and get a share at the end.

$25 win #6

Commentary:
#6 - #1 Persuasive Lips – speed, rail and must get out because there is other
speed in this race. This is the only horse that has run within the last 30 days
(and won). She's back in at the same claiming prices and conditions of NW2
because of the conditions of maiden, claiming and starter races for 10k or less
are not counted against the horse in this race. Very lightly raced vs the other
horses in the race.
#5 – Urban Diva – drops back to a level that suits much
better for this horse's form and level.
#6 – Awesome Amanda – speed should hang around for a share.

Although I think #6 Awesome Amanda is the best horse, the inside horses at the
distance have a major edge. As such, I move Amanda behind the #1 Persuasive
Lips and #2 Marjorie E.

#6 American Farmer- Gets back to the synthetic after 4 races on the turf. Likes
the synthetic so far in his career having run it 4 times with a record of
(1-1-1). Has faced tougher than this on turf and synthetic.
#2 Lymebyrd – Had 3 consecutive runner up finishes before
trying turf at Santa Anita last time out. Will return to Golden Gate and the
synthetic here and has had success finishing in the exacta 9 of 14 career races
at Golden Gate.
#5 Our Silver Oak- Out of everybody's last race had the
highest Beyer at an 84. You get a high percentage jockey and trainer. Likes the
distance finishing in the trifecta all 4 of his races.

#6 American Farmer – It appears that there is speed in the race with a bunch of
sit back and waiting. I went with American Farmer to sit off the lead and come
on late. My concern is if the mile race is not long enough? Steve Sherman is a
good trainer to make a good decision on where to place his horses some
factoring this into my decision.
#5 – Our Silver Oak – good trainer and should pick up at the
end.

Commentary:
on paper, it's a two-horse race between #5 Our Silver Oak and #6 American
Farmer. Morning line favorite #3 King of Speed looks vulnerable as he's only
raced well on turf and hasn't fired much on dirt or in his lone all-weather
race.

#1 Discernment- Running for first time in 3 months. Making debut at Golden Gate
and running for her lowest tag. Runs better on dirt then turf so hopefully that
is the same on synthetic. 5 out of 10 career starts finished in exacta. Gets
the inside post and leading rider Kyle Frey.
#2 Thrill's Legacy - Always gives it a honest try. Good
trainer and jockey combo. Went off as favorite last time and went 3 wide in the
turn and flattened out to finish 4th. Should have a better effort here 2nd
start after a 3 month break.
#8 Shanghai Fantasy - The wildcard of the race. Has tons of
speed but this will be her first start in 2 and half years. Has been working
out really well so might be ready to go off the bench.

#5 Say Yes Sally – ok, we have a 90plus layoff and first start with this
trainer. Jonathan Wong is 30% win and 62% ITM with horses first time out when a
horse switches trainer. Drops into the 12,5k NW2L level with one very nice work
on January 9th of :36.4 H and then a maintenance work on January 24th. Wants
the lead or will be right close.
#2 - Thrill's Legacy – beaten favorite in last, rounding to
into form with ok last race.
#9 – You Wanna Ear Rip – drops and has shown she like AW surface.
5 out of 7 ITM finishes.

#1 Discernment has the look of a single with one of my favorite angles,
dropping in class after posting the highest, last race speed figure. If not
her, then #5 Say Yes Sally, #3 Silly Notion or #7 Truly Fabulous.
