SPOOKY CHANNEL scored his second graded win in the $200,000 John B. Connally Turf Cup Stakes (G3T) at Sam Houston Race Park Sunday.

The race was the second start after a five month lay off for the six-year-old gelding by ENGLISH CHANNEL. He was the 3-2 favorite in the Connally after a fourth place finish in the G2T Ft. Lauderdale Stakes at Gulfstream Park.

Ridden by Julien Leparoux, the pair settled in fourth after the start. CONVICTION TRADE set the pace with fractions of :24.57 and :48.97. At the quarter pole, he had moved to second and made a drive down the stretch for the win. However, AJOURNEYTOFREEDOM was not willing to give so easily and made a drive on the outside. SPOOKY CHANNEL dug in to pull out a narrow victory. He completed the distance in 2:30.94.

AJOURNEYTOFREEDOM held on for second while CONVICTION TRADE finished third over a length back. TENFOLD rallied from last to fourth.
