In 2020, the Breeders' Cup prohibited any of the horses in the "Future Stars Friday" program from running on Lasix. This year, with the passing of the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Act (HISA), they are doing the same for all 2021 Breeders' Cup races and qualifying races.
The organization announced last Wednesday that the 2021 Breeders' Cup 2021 "Win and You're In" Challenge series will be run without Lasix. According to the President and CEO of Breeders' Cup Limited, Drew Fleming, "Even before HISA was signed into law, running the World Championships Lasix-free was a goal of Breeders' Cup. Extending this standard to all races associated with the Breeders' Cup World Championships will hopefully set an example of other racetracks and stakeholders to embrace forthcoming safety and integrity measures, including the elimination of race day medication, as a new, safer era of our storied sport approaches."
