With frigid temperatures already hitting North and East Texas on their way towards Arkansas, Oaklawn made the announcement yesterday that they will flop flop their stakes schedule on February 20th and 21st. The $750,000 Southwest Stakes (G3), the $250,000 Bayakoa Stakes (G3), and the $600,000 Razorback Handicap (G3) will now be run on February 21st. The $150,000 Dixie Belle Stakes and $150,000 Downthedustyroadstakes will go to February 20th.
The races were already rescheduled due to the weather over this weekend, which is expected to extend into late next week. With this change, it is hopeful that the weather will be much nicer for the Southwest Stakes, which is a Kentucky Derby prep race. The race offers qualifying points on a 10-4-2-1 basis toward the Road to the Kentucky Derby.
Probables for the race include JACKIE'S WARRIOR, LAST SAMURAI, KEEPMEINMIND and ESSENTIAL QUALITY.
MONOMOY GIRL is expected to make her 2021 debut as a 6-year-old in the Bayakoa Stakes.
