Weather has punished many in the States and has its impact on this weekend's show. Ice, snow, freezing temps and technology all took their toll on the crew. Ah, but Shawn, Terry, Thomas and Rich take lemons and makes picks at Laurel Park.


Laurel Park Race 5: $100,000 Nellie Morse Stakes

Commentary:
#5- Flashndynamite has the second-best win percentage in the race. She has won 7 out of 10 races at this distance.

#9 – Lucky Stride have finished 85% of the time in the money winning 56% of the time.

#1 – Landing Zone loves the distance and track. She has been very competitive with these horses in the past and fits well.

Commentary:
#4 Lucky Move - This race was very difficult to decide the winner between the 3 horses I liked. I went with the longest shot of those three. Also, you will see this horse has beaten bigger fields then the other two I chose. #4 Lucky Move won 2 in row before the last race finishing 4th. That last race was a decent race considering the competition and trip. Has the right style for this race as she will be rolling late from the back. There is plenty of speed in here and I don't think any of the speed will get away and win this race. She likes the distance winning 3 of 5 races with 1 second as well. The average field size for her 8 victories is 6.57 horses.

#9 Lucky Stride- Another horse that will be rolling late and will be there at the end. Has won 9 of 16 career races with also 4 seconds. Those numbers are impressive, but you do have to look and see most of her career numbers are from racing in Puerto Rico at Camarero race track. Over there she was beating a lot of 3 and 4 horse fields. She has raced decent since leaving there, especially the last 2 races. Last race had a victory at Tampa Bay and the race before finished second right here at Laurel. The average field size for her 9 victories is 4.88 horses.

#7 Wicked Awesome - This will be the other horse that will be closing late and should be somewhere in the exotics at the end. Had a 3 race win streak snapped 2 starts ago where she finished 4th and #9 Lucky Stride finished 2nd. Her last start she did rebound for a nice 2nd. Interesting that during her 3 win race streak every race was 5 horse fields. The average field size for her 8 victories is 5.75 horses.

Commentary:
#2 Daphne Moon is lightly race 4-year-old who ran to win last race. She performed really well being shuffled back and came up to win. She is facing some of the same horses from last time in this race. She may go off at good odds.

#7- Wicked Awesome ran well in Grade 3 at Laurel last out. Even workouts coming up to this race. She is 4 wins out 7 races at this distance.

#4- Lucky Move ships down from New York running an extra furlong in last 2 races. She is 6 out of 7 in the money finishes at this distance. On paper, she is a good listed race runner.

#9 Lucky Stride has three wins and three seconds in six at the distance. She should be in the top two of tickets until she doesn't end in the top two.

Laurel Park Race 6: $100,000 Wide Country Stakes

Commentary:
#5- Street Lute has been near perfect in her career only missing in one race by a neck. She is running back at the same distance which she loves.

# 7- Little Huntress won by 14 lengths in her last race at this distance. She has a great jockey-trainer combination.-. Sheldon Russell-Brittany Russell-(Wife)

#3- Fraudulent Charge just lost to Street Lute by a nose. She may turn the tables this race.

Commentary:
#5 Street Lute - Has won 6 of her career 7 races all right here at Laurel the one loss was only by a neck. I can't go against horses like this even at a really short price. I would be shocked if we got 2/1 I would expect 3/5. Yes, there is a bunch of speed in here, but this horse has proved she can rate and sit off the speed. She just needs some horses in here to put enough pressure on the #7 Little Huntress early in the race.

# 3 Fraudulent Charge- If you ask me the next likely winner after the #5 yes, it probably is the #7 Little Huntress . I'm going with most likely to finish 2nd behind #5 Street Lute and it's this horse. A matter of fact she did that last start and actually almost won as she lost start to #5Street Lute by a nose. She also has the right running style i think in this race and that's coming off the pace.

# 7 Little Huntress - She was very impressive last race and she got an easy lead and drew off and won by 14 lengths. If she got an easy lead again will be really tough however, I see too much speed in here for her to get away. The jury is still out if she can win off the pace and as she has never gotten that opportunity. Does get Lasix for the first time which can improve a horse even more.

Commentary:
#7 Little Huntress big maiden win last out by 14 lengths. Moves up to listed company and should be able to beat this group. Brittany Russell has 28 starters in listed races and winning at 29%. Appears to be the second choice in this race.

#5- Street Lute will be challenged up front by my choice and has done nothing wrong in her races with 6 wins from 7 starts. The one to beat.

#2- Salt Piage has won both races at Parx and will continue to improve off last race. If the top 2 burn themselves out on the front, this horse should be closing at the end.

It's kind of hard to look past #5 Street Lute Laurel record of four wins and a second in five races. It's also hard to ignore a 14-length win like Little Huntress put in Laurel's main track in her last outing, which included some better fractions despite adding a furlong.

Laurel Park Race 7: $250,000 Barbara Fritchie Stakes – Grade III

Commentary:
#8 - Hello Beautiful is going for her 4th win in a row. She ran seven times at Laurel, wining all seven races. She has the great combination of Sheldon Russell riding and Brittany Russell training.

#3 – Dontletsweetfoolya has won 62% of her races finishing 83% of the time in the money. She will be putting her 5 race win streak on the line

#4 - Estilo Talentoso has never been out of the money and will most likely be in the exotics.

#8 Hello Beautiful - Another race I can't beat the favorite. She is 7 for 7 on dirt at Laurel and has a good post being on the outside of the other threat and speed the #3 Dontletsweetfoolya. Jockey Sheldon Russel and trainer/wife Brittany Russel will have to decide to challenge the #3 for the lead or sit right off the pace. I think she is the class of the race and should win this one.

#3 Dontletsweetfoolya- Has won 5 races in a row with 4 of those being at Laurel. She seems to be a need the lead type horse. It will be a tough task to beat the #8 Hello Beautiful to the lead and if she does she will still have to hold her off.

#2 Club Car- Finished 2nd only 1 length behind #8 Hello Beautiful last race. Should be able to close and get a good trip again in this race. Has finished 9 of 16 races in the exacta.

Commentary:
#6 Hibiscus Punch has run 3 good races at Laurel since shipping in from Woodbine. When she ran at the 7-furlong distance, she finished 4th but it was a game effort. The extra furlong should be fine. She is a 6-year-old that has raced only 7 times and finished in the money 6 out 7 times.

#4- Estilo Talentoso has run good races every outing. She is in the money all of her 10 races. I cannot leave her off the ticket.

#1- Sharp Starr is the only graded stakes winner in this race and has be very sharp in last 3 races. The :47 breezing work tells me she must be added to the exacta.

#8 Hello Beautiful is another Laurel horse that you cannot overlook, seven races, seven wins, including the highest, last race speed figure. #3 Dontletsweetfoolya is on a five-race win streak and they've all been blowouts. One of the two ladies is likely to win again.

Laurel Park Race 8: $250,000 General George Stakes – Grade III

Commentary:
#1 - Laki had trouble in his last two races. He won the last two times he broke from the inside post and he can adapt to any pace scenario and does well at this distance and track. 

#2 - Funny Guy has won 35% of his races. He has the best per race money amount collected in the race and a Beyer of 100.

#3 - Lebda is racing himself back into form as he makes a third start since his lay-off. He has good tactical speed and has been working well for this race.

Commentary:
#6 Share the Ride- Loves a fast dirt track winning 7 of 16 races on it. Can go to the lead or sit off. This race might have to sit off as there does seem to be some pace to it. One of the classier horses in the field. A very popular horse as 2 trainers keep swapping him back and forth. This will be the 6th race with a different trainer than the race before.

#2 Funny Guy- The other horse in the field that I would say has the most class with #6 Share the Ride. Has the perfect style for this race as he will sit mid pack off the speed. Has been in the exacta 12 of 17 career races. One concern and why I'm trying to beat him is that in the last 7 races that he has been favored he has only won 1 of them. To expand past that in 4 of those 7 has finished 2nd.

#1 Laki - Horse for the course finishing in the exacta 15 of 21 races there. Also likes the distance finishing in the trifecta in all 5 of his races going this distance. The horse can sit off the speed as well and has shown some speed in the past. Has a nice inside post.

Commentary:
#8- I like 2 horses so I decided to take the one that be at a good price. #9- Chilly in Charge has been running well at Parx and didn't go at the race at Aqueduct. In the past, he has running with listed horses and dropped down in class to find form. Will be running late.

#1 – Laki needs some racing luck to get going. Clipped heels in last, lacked room in the race before. This time he will run better?

#2- Funny Guy is a very good New York bred who has faced graded stakes type horses in the past. This looks like a good spot to pickup a piece of this race.

This race appears to be the most wide open of the four races covered here. I think any of #4 Laki, #2 Funny Guy, #3 Lebda and #6 Share the Ride could take the wire (listed in my projected order of finish).
