The smoke has cleared.
We have two fast horses to follow as the best sprinters in the U.S. begin to
identify themselves. Have a look at how they performed.
The $100K Turf Dash
Stakes was won by THE CRITICAL
WAY, ridden by Samy Camacho, trained by Jose Delgado, owned by Monster Racing
Stables - an impressive wire to wire victory.
THE CRITICAL WAY broke
out on top and vied for the lead through a speedy opening quarter of 20.99 and
43.54 half mile. He carried his speed well into the stretch, and repelled the
late charge of IMPRIMIS, who once again found himself in a little bit of
traffic but was second best that day. THE CONNECTOR rallied to get up for
third. The final time for the five-furlong dash was 55.30 seconds over the firm
THE CRITICAL WAY paid
$7.80 to win, $3.80 to place, $2.80 to show. He is by TIZWAY out of CRITICAL
FACTOR by STAR DE NASKRA.
This marks his 7th win
from 22 starts and pushes his earnings to $334,168. He's now 2 for 2 over the
Tampa Bay lawn and earned his second highest speed figure of his career.
This must be a major
confidence booster for THE CRITICAL WAY, turning the tables on IMPRIMIS who
beat him last time out in the Janus Stakes at Gulfstream Park. Wherever THE
CRITICAL WAY sprints next, he will be much shorter than the 7-1 odds we were
gifted yesterday, and deservedly so.
The $100K Lightning City
Stakes was won by MISS
AURAMET, ridden by Roberto Albarado Jr, trained by Edward Plesa Jr., owned by
David Melin, Leon Ellman, and Laurie Plesa.
She won using an
impressive turn of foot in the stretch, charging past the leaders to be ahead
by a little more than a length, then holding off a flying ODE TO JOY who would
settle for second. SETHAME STREET ran third.
Look at the fractions!
They sizzled a 20.78 first quarter, 43.43 for the half, and 55.40 for the final
time. They tied the earlier stakes race for five furlongs over the firm turf.
MISS AURAMET paid $18.00
to win, $8.20 to place, $6.80 to show. She is by UNCAPTURED out of HELLO ROSIE
by YES IT'S TRUE. She continues to build on her consistent resume, finishing in
the money 15 out of 19 times, while 8 times the winner. She pushed her earnings
It will be interesting
to see if MISS AURAMET remains on the grass from this point forward. Her other
two best races were actually on the dirt going, still, five furlongs. On either
surface, she'll be tough to beat. She earned her highest speed figure off this
effort, so she's in top form.
