What an action packed weekend at Gulfstream Park we've just had. A 14-race card with 9 stakes races and over 1.45 million awarded in purse money! The races were contested on Fast dirt and Firm turf throughout the day. No excuses, nothing to complain about. Our racing stars duked it out and settle their scores on the track. Let's catch up on what happened.

The main event of the card, the $300K Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2) was won by GREATEST HONOUR, ridden by Jose Ortiz, trained by Claude McGaughey III, owned by Courtlandt Farms — in a powerhouse performance. Did we witness the greatest performance so far by a 3-year-old?

GREATEST HONOUR didn't break the fastest and was positioned toward the back of the field. He raced along the 2path relaxed and unhurried for most of the race. He let the leaders show the way through fractions of 23.66 and 47.18. After a third of the way through, GREATEST HONOUR begins to move. He goes 3-wide, and with great momentum brings jockey Jose Ortiz up to fourth at the top of stretch. Pacesetter DRAIN THE CLOCK then slips the field and spurts away momentarily to lead by three lengths. But when GREATEST HONOUR is ridden out, he gobbles up ground with every stride and charges by to win by almost three lengths. DRAIN THE CLOCK ran well to be second, PAPETU got up for third. The final time for the one mile and one-sixteenth race was 1:44.02.

GREATEST HONOUR paid $4.00 to win, $2.60 to place, and $2.20 to show. He is by TAPIT out of TIFFANY'S HONOUR by STREET CRY. He earns 50 qualifying  points on his Road to the Kentucky Derby, and takes the top spot with 60 points total. MANDALOUN is now second with 52 points.

With 3 wins, 1 second, and 2 thirds from 6 career starts, GREATEST HONOUR has now earned $351,940.

wholebodemeisterThe $200K Davona Dale Stakes (G2) was won by WHOLEBODEMEISTER, ridden by Edgard Zayas, trained by Juan Avila, owned by Sabana Farm — in a 52-1 upset!

From the one hole, WHOLEBODEMEISTER broke alertly, was pushed to the lead, and was engaged by ADIOS TRIPPI early on. They raced one-two along the backstretch and into the turn, where ADIOS TRIPPI could no longer keep up. Now VEQUIST, CURLIN'S CATCH, and CRAZY BEAUTIFUL were making plenty ground from behind. But when they hit the stretch, WHOLEBODEMEISTER found a new gear; she kicked away by eight lengths to secure the win. CRAZY BEAUTIFUL got up for second, COMPETITIVE SPEED HELD for third. The final time for the one mile run was 1:36.89.

WHOLEBODEMEISTER paid $107.60 to win, $32.20 to place, and $13.60 to show. She is by BODEMEISTER out of WHOLELOTTASHAKIN by SCAT DADDY. This was her 3rd win in 7 starts and she pushed her earnings to $175,922. She wins 50 points for her Road to the Kentucky Oaks — climbing up to second place with 52 pts total, trailing only behind CLAIRIERE with 54 pts.

The $200K WinStar Gulfstream Park Mile Stakes (G2) was won by FEARLESS, ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr., trained by Todd Pletcher, owned by WinStar Farm LLC and CHC Inc. — in a professional score.

FEARLESS broke alertly and was positioned to rate in fourth, while WIND OF CHANGE led the field, opening up by eight lengths. FEARLESS moved three wide as they approached the turn and cruised nicely to the tiring leader. He hit the stretch and repelled the late charges of AVANT GARDE who finished second, and PERFORMER who finished third. The final time was 1:36.61.

FEARLESS paid $7.60 to win, $4.20 to place, and $2.60 to show. He is by GHOSTZAPPER out of AND WHY NOT by STREET CRY.  He won his 4th race in 7 starts, pushed his earnings to $246,280, and remains undefeated at Gulfstream Park.

got stormy$125K Honey Fox Stakes (G3) was won by GOT STORMY, ridden by Tyler Gaffalione, trained by Mark Casse, owned by My Racehorse and Spendthrift Farm — in a tight photo!

GOT STORMY had the perfect tracking trip; she rated in in second place just one to two lengths off the lead. She maintained her position all the way to the stretch, and when asked to go, off she went! She showed that characteristic turn of foot and dashed for home but was chased by Zofelle, who was gaining ground on her with every stride. They hit the wire together and GOT STORMY hung on by a nose. ZOFELLE ran great to finish second, FEEL GLORIOUS ran third. The final time for the mile race was 1:35.52.

GOT STORMY paid $4.20 to win, $2.40 to place, and $2.10 to show. She is by GET STORMY out of SUPER PHOEBE by MALABAR GOLD. She's now won 3 of her last 4 starts, with earnings now exceeding $2 million.

The $200K Mac Diarmida Stakes (G2) was won by PHANTOM CURRENCY, ridden by Paco Lopez, trained by Brian Lynch, owned by Jim and Susan Hill — in gate to wire fashion.

PHANTOM CURRENCY was pushed to the lead and was immediately challenged by TIDE OF THE SEA early on. PHANTOM CURRENCY continued to show the way with TIDE OF THE SEA on his flank all the way into the stretch. It was PHANTOM CURRENCY who had a better turn of foot. He kicked clear and held off the late, charge of TEMPLE in deep stretch. TIDE OF THE SEA rebroke in the final jumps to get back up for second, MOON OVER MIAMI rallied to get third. The final time was 2:13.84.

PHANTOM CURRENCY paid $15.60 to win, $7.20 to place, $5.00 to show. He is by GOLDENSCENTS out of PHANTOM RISING by MR. GREELEY. This marks his 5th win in 14 starts and he pushed his earnings to $314,355.

She kicked clear at the end to win by a comfortable two lengths. BELLA LAURA finished second, SISTER HANAN ran third. The final time was 1:53.70.

ANTOINETTE paid $9.20 to win, $5.00 to place, and $3.80 to show. She is by HARD SPUN out of SHURUQ by ELUSIVE QUALITY. This is her 4th win in 11 starts; she pushes her earnings to $608,750.

The $125 Canadian Turf Stakes (G3) was won by VENEZUELAN HUG, ridden by Junior Alvarado, trained by Danny Gargan, owned by Spedale Family Racing LLC and R.A. Hill Stable — in a gutsy win!

Full of run at the top of the stretch, but with nowhere to go, VENEZUELAN HUG threaded between horses in deep stretch to hit the wire first, just able to outfinish a flying OLYMPIC RUNNER to his far outside. OLYMPIC RUNNER ran great in defeat to be second, GEAR JOCKEY ran third. The final time for the one mile and one-sixteenth race was 1:40.42.

Ridden by Irad Ortiz JR., trained by Todd Pletcher, owned by Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, CON LIMA rated in third behind the leaders and produced her late run in the stretch to finish behind SPANISH LOVEAFFAIR (who was DQ'd from first)

JOY OF PAINTING was named second, I GET IT named third, and SPANISH LOVEAFFAIR moved to fourth. The final time for the one mile and one-sixteenth run was 1:41.30.

Approaching the turn and into the stretch, the leader began to tire and ultimately hit a brick wall, with the rest of the field stampeding for home behind him. It was ANNEX, with the big white blaze, running six wide closing the fastest. He gets up to win over SCARLETT SKY to his inside who settled for second, CHESS'S DREAM ran on to be third.
