While the Preakness Stakes is definitely the highlight of Saturday's race card, Pimlico is also hosting 11 stakes in total, six of which are graded including the Preakness. Here's a look at the other five graded stakes on the card this Saturday.
The Gallorette is a grade 3 race for fillies and mares three years old and up. The purse is $150,000 and the distance is 1 1/16 miles on the turf. So far JULIET FOXTROT, trained by Brad Cox, is they heavy favorite in the field of eight.
The Miss Preakness Stakes is also grade 3 with a $150,000 purse. It is for three-year-old fillies going six furlongs on the dirt. The field of seven is highlighted by several outstanding fillies including WICKED WHISPER, MUNDAYE CALL, and AIN'T NO ELMERS. WICKED WHISPER, trained by Steve Asmussen, is already a grade 1 winner. MUNDAYE CALL had two impressive wins in a row but finished fourth in the Eight Belles. However, she was caught up in an intense speed duel that she just couldn't keep up with.
Dinner Party Stakes
The Dinner Party Stakes features a field of seven 3-year-old colts that will be going 1 1/16 miles on the turf in this grade two worth $250,000. FACTOR THIS, trained by Brad Cox, is the likely favorite. He will be challenged by SOMELIKEITHOTBROWN, who ran in the 2018 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf, placing third. His most recent stakes win was the Bernard Baruch Handicap (G2) at Saratoga. Also a potential challenger is TRUE VALOUR, another multiple graded stakes winner.
Frank J. De Francis Memorial Dash
This grade 3 race worth $200,000 for three-year-olds and up going 6 furlongs on the dirt could be one of the most exciting races this weekend. The race features LANDESKOG, trained by Brad Cox. The colt's last start was the 2019 Gallant Bob (G2), where he placed second but earned a 108 Beyer speed figure. However, the colt has only raced once since September 2019. Also in the field of eight, is STAN THE MAN whose last start was a first-place finish in the 2020 Tale of the Cat. He will be ridden by Derby winning Johnny Velasquez.
The G2 Black-Eyed Susan has drawn a field of 11 fillies going for $250,000 at 1 1/8 of a mile on the dirt. BONNY SOUTH is expected to be the favorite as she finished second to SWISS SKYDIVER in the Alabama. PERFECT ALIBI is a grade 1 winner who will be wearing blinkers this time around. Perhaps they will help her keep her eye on the prize.
