On Saturday, April 10th, 2021, jockeys TD Houghton and Luan Machada were involved in a three-horse spill at Mahoning Valley Race Track.

Luan Machada's horse, STARTDFROMDABOTTOM, fell just past the five sixteenths pole, tripping two other oncoming horses, HAKMAN and BIG TRUCK.

TD Houghton was aboard HAKMAN, who unfortunately had to be euthanized due to fatal injury. The other two horses were walked off and were said to be okay. (Reported by Equibase Charts)

As of 10:00 PM, Luan Machada's cat scan revealed he has a fractured clavicle/collarbone. TD Houghton was revealed to have multiple fractures in his face and will require surgery. He is still sedated in ICU. (Reported by Carly Hamel)

A Gofundme page has been created to help Houghton and Machada and their families raise money to cover expensive medical bills, and loss of income due to the recovery time ahead.

"Both of these riders are a strong and influential part of Ohio Racing however they have left their mark on the industry in many areas.  I am asking for everyone to come together to help these amazing men and their families cover medical bills and loss of income because they both have a long road of recovery ahead of them." — Carly Hamel
