Hall of Famer jockey Mike Smith stops by to talk to the crew about his Triple Crown with JUSTIFY, the amazing ZENYATTA and what she meant to his career.
He also spills the beans on what you should be looking for before the Kentucky Derby, if you want to find the winner. All the crew wrote his advice down in our handicapping notebooks. It's that important.
Shawn, Terry, Tom and Rich make their picks for Santa Anita's Saturday races 6, 7 and 8. Mike let's us know what he thinks about his rides in races 6 and 8. He also tells us a story about his relation to MONEY MIKE, running in race 7.
Great stuff from one of the greatest riders of all-time, don't miss it!

#8 - Fly to Mars is back to a claiming level he can win at
and ridden by the leading jockey Flavien Prat. He has finished in the money
over 60% of the time on the turf, winning 44% of the time at today's distance.
#5 - French Getaway had trouble at the start and still just
missed winning, finishing 3rd by a neck in his last race.
#4 – Cajun Treasure is dropping in class and is at a level
he can be competitive at. He has finished 42% of the time in the money in his
#1 - Money Mike is by the sire Into Mischief (Harlan's
Holiday). He has four bullet works and is another horse in this race trained by
#4 - Naismith had a small amount of trouble in his first
career race and ran a decent race in spite of that receiving a 61 Beyer number.
He has been consistently working for his second race.
#6 - Brutto is trained by Bob Baffert and ridden by Cedillo.
He has very good works for the start of his racing career.
#2 - Flightline is by the sire Tappit. He is trained by John
Sadler and ridden by Flavien Prat. He has been working weekly and has a bullet
work of 59.1 on April 4, best of 60 workouts.
#2 - As Time Goes By is trained by Bob Baffert and ridden by
Mike Smith. She looks versatile as she appears to be able go to the front or
stay close to the pace and close on the leaders. She has finished in the money
100% of her career starts.
#1 - Pharoah's Heart is a closer and the extra distance of
today's race should benefit her.
#4 – Harvest Moon has won a Grade 2 & 3 race at a mile,
but it appears that one mile is her limit as she tired in her last two races
but can be part of the exacta or trifecta.

22 to 1 Tom's Tips and International Thoughts
#8 - Fly to Mars - should be the favorite and has won at
this level last time out. He is the one to beat.
#4 - Cajun Treasure – was claimed in the last race by Jeff
Mullins and drops down in class (slightly). He faced Fly to Mars in that
February race and finished 5th. Mullins has a 41% in the money rate with 1st
race after the claim and should get into the trifecta.
#1 – Money Mike – a 600k purchase with excellent works
especially the 6-furlong race of 1:12.2. The mare was a stakes winner, and this
is her first foal to race. Into Mischief is a top sire and this looks like a
#6 – Brutto – a Nyquist colt from a mare who has produced 5
runners and 4 winners. Most of these won as 2-year-olds. A bargain at 70k.
Should sit on or near the lead.
#4 – Naismith – turf race to start his career and had
issues. Switch to dirt and sit near the leader. If he has the final kick, his
in the money. Mare has produced 5 runners and 3 winners, and one is a stakes
#2 – As Time Goes By – beat the rest of the field behind
Swiss Skydriver last time out in the Beholder G1 mile. Stepping up to the 1 1/8
distance shouldn't be an issue for this daughter of Take Charge Lady (Grade 1
winner). Her offspring include Take Charge Indy (grade 1 winner) and Will Take
Charge (Grade 1 winner) and she was named broodmare of the year in 2013. 3 good
works coming into this race and appears ready in win a graded stakes race.
#1 – Pharoah's Heart – putting blinkers on for the first
time. It's time to see what kind of horse they have. Looking for some black
type and Mark Glatt is clicking at a 51% rate of in the money finishers in
graded stakes company.
#5 – Clockstrikestwelve – as she gets older, she has been
improving. She won 5 in a row before losing badly in the Beholder Mile. She
didn't have the best of trips either. This former claimer switched trainers in
August of 2020 that seems to have made the difference. I can see her picking up
a share in this race. She may be better suited for the turf, but she has won on
all surfaces – dirt, turf and all weather.
Doncaster – The 17:20 (11:20am Central Daylight Time)
Saturday, April 24th.
The is a maiden stake for 3 years and most of the horse have
not run yet. There are 25 entries currently but that will be reduced. So, we
make picks based on what we currently have available to us. Condition of the
track is currently rated: Good to firm.
My top choice is Moorbik – he's raced once on tapeta and
finished 5th. Now on the grass, he should fare better. He's trained by William
Haggas who hitting at the rate of 28%, on the turf over the past 14 days with
18 starters and 5 winners and 3 places. Moorbik is by Iffraaj who has sired
many group 1 winners and stands at Darley. The mare: Mamma Morton has 10 horses
who have gone to the races and 8 are winners and she raced in the states
running mainly at sprint distances.
Other horses to watch in this race are: G'DAAY, STATE
SECRETRY & SIR RUMI.
Swiss Army Shawn's Selections
#8 Fly to Mars- Should get a nice trip stalking the leader.
He has won 6 of 8 races with Flavian Prat aboard and has faced much tougher
than this group. Is the biggest money earner in the field by far also has the
most career wins in the field with 8.
#4 Cajun Treasure – Dropping in class and fits well in here
against everybody but your winner. Would need a great trip to beat the ML
favorite #8 Fly to Mars. He lost to him by 9 ½ lengths last time.
#5 French Getaway- Looks like the kind of horse I don't
think will win this race but definitely one you want to use in the exotics.
Should close from about mid pack.
$10 Ex 8/4,5 $2
TRI 8/ 4,5/1,4,5 $10
pick 3 8/2,3,6/2
#2 Flightline – A million-dollar Tapit yearling. Gets
leading jockey Flavian Prat and gets the best trainer in the race for first
time starters going by ROI in John Sadler. Gets an inside post but not the
#6 Brutto - The workouts are sharp and one of the two from
the Bob Baffert barn in here. Jockey Abel Cedillo is a good speed jockey and I
think this horse will break sharply.
#3 Secret Weapon- Really good works and good connections
$5 exbox 2,6
$10 ex 2/ 3
#2 As Time Goes By- I would expect this horse to wire the
field but doesn't need the lead to win. Lost to Swiss Skydiver last time out by
2 ¾ lengths in the beholder mile.
#1 Pharoah's Heart- Should be able to close into the exacta
and hasn't missed the exacta in 3 career starts. Also adding blinkers for this
#4 Harvest Moon- Won 4 of his 5 starts before running into
Monomoy Girl and Swiss Skydiver. Those races were not good for this horse as
she weakened in both. Last race she also finished behind the #2 by over 4
$22 ex 2/1
8 - Fly to Mars, dropping off a win with the highest, last
race speed figure.
5 - French Getaway just needs to run back to his October 2,
3 - Snazzy Dresser – other speed coming off a long break.
4 - Cajun Treasure good late run, but not sure if bottom two
can run same 1-mile times as top two's best.
1 – Money Mike, with Mike Smith on the show? That's an omen
2 – Flightline, $1million horse with great connections, how
do you pass?
4 – Naismith is the best of the non-first-time starters.
6 – Brutto is Bob Baffert's second horse, but he has higher
win rate jockey Prat on the 2.
2 - As Time Goes By
1 - Pharoah's Heart
4 - Harvest Moon
All three are making second starts after a layoff. Resumes
suggest As Time Goes By and Pharoah's Heart will improve more than Harvest
