We will likely see many changes to the Preakness field over the next couple of weeks, but two horses many expected to be running will not - CADDO RIVER and MANDALOUN. CADDO RIVER already skipped the Derby and MANDALOUN was a close second to the Derby winner, MEDINA SPIRIT, finishing just a neck behind. The announcement came today via a teleconference call hosted by the National Thoroughbred Racing Association.

Cox said in the call regarding MANDALOUN, "He ran extremely well and hard. And we feel like we would like to give him some time. To run him back in two weeks we feel like it would compromise his opportunity to run the rest of the year. In the best interest of the horse, to run him back in two weeks is just not the right thing for him."

As far as CADDO RIVER, they don't feel that they have done enouogh with him to pursue the Preakness. Instead, they are targeting the Matt Winn on May 29th at Churchill Downs.

Cox has also decided to not run ESSENTIAL QUALITY in the Preakness as well. However, Cox will still have runners in the Preakness undercard.
