Be sure to tune in early to Pimlico as they'll begin their 14-race card with the First Post Time of 11:30 AM ET / 8:30 AM PT.
We've got six stakes races worth a total of $1 million. Let's preview the action.
The $150K Allaire DuPont Distaff Match Series Stakes (G3) — 1 1/8 miles, Dirt, Fillies and Mares, Three-years-old and upward. Post Time 3:07 PM ET.
HOROLOGIST for trainer Bill Mott heads this competitive field with a morning line odds of 3-1. She'll break from the five hole with jockey Junior Alvarado in the irons. She was last seen winning the Top Flight Invitational Stakes at Aqueduct, in what was her comeback race from the Breeder's Cup Distaff (G1) in November 2020. The daughter of GEMOLOGIST has never raced at PIMLICO but is 2 for 3 at this one mile and one-eighth trip.
GETRIDOFWHATAILESU could make things interesting from the fourth slot at 7-2. She'll represent the Brad Cox barn and be ridden by Javier Castellano, who rode her during her best performance so far: a third place finish in the Azeri Stakes (G2). It's her first time going a mile and an eighth but her pedigree suggests she'll love the extra half furlong. Her sire, grandsire, and damsire were all winners of the ten-furlong Breeder's Cup Classic.
SPICE IS NICE for trainer Todd Pletcher will break from post three at 7-2. She's a $1.05 million purchased daughter of CURLIN who enters off of an Optional Claiming 62K victory at Keeneland back in April, and will be stepping up in class for the task. John Velazquez is 3 for 5 on this filly, and aims to give her a first win at this distance. She should be sharper this time around as she makes her second start off a six-month layoff.
Rounding out the field are: ANOTHER BROAD, DREAMALILDREAMOFU, MRS. DANVERS, LANDING ZONE and LUCKY STRIDE.
The $100 Very One Stakes — 5 furlongs, Turf, Fillies and Mares, Three-year-olds and upward. Post Time is 3:38 PM ET.
DIXIEINCANDYLAND from post eleven is the 3-1 morning-line favorite for trainer Eddie Kenneally. The daughter of CANDY RIDE tied her top speed figure in an Allowance race at Keeneland last month. She gets Joel Rosario onboard as she steps back up in class. Note that she's hit the board in 10 of 12 tries at this distance.
CARAVEL for trainer Elizabeth Merryman will break from post three as the 7-2 second choice. She has never failed to hit the board in all six starts, plus she finished a decent third over this Pimlico turf when she ran in the $100K Hilltop Stakes back in October 2020. She makes her second start off a layoff and will be piloted by Florent Geroux.
CATCH A BID from post nine is the 4-1 third choice for trainer Joe Sharp. Jockey Luis Saez will ride the daughter of REAL SOLUTION as she makes only her second start in a sprint race. Note her 4F bullet work on May 7th, going :48.60 as the fastest of 7 workouts at that distance.
Rounding out the field are: EPIC IDEA, GOGO SHOES, BATH AND TENNIS, VICTORY KINGDOM, QUEEN OF SHADES, CAN THE QUEEN, BUFF'S IN LOVE, DENDROBIA and GOTTA GO MO.
The $150K Miss Preakness Stakes (G3) — 6 furlongs, Dirt, Post Time is 4:09 PM ET.
ABROGRATE from the rail is the 7-2 morning line favorite from the Steve Asmussen barn. She seeks redemption after flattening out to finish fifth in the Eight Belles Stakes (G2) last month at Churchill Downs. The daughter of OUTWORK cuts back to a distance she's won three of four times. Regular rider Ricardo Santana Jr. is back aboard.
JOYFUL CADENCE from post nine has been assigned odds of 4-1. The John Ortiz trainee comes off a second place finish to the above horse in the Purple Martini Stakes and will try to turn the tables. Irad Ortiz Jr. is in the irons for the first time. The daughter of RUNHAPPY fired a 4F bullet on May 7th, going :47.20 as the fastest of 76 workouts at that distance.
INJECT from post seven is the 6-1 shot from the Brad Cox stable. She won her last race over this six furlong distance by a neck. The $390K daughter of FROSTED will step up in class for this event, and has Florent Geroux to guide her.
Rounding out the field are: RED GHOST, JUROR NUMBER FOUR, PARADISE SONG, STREET LUTE, PRODIGY DOLL and EUPHORIC.
The $250K Pimlico Special Match Series Stakes (G2) — 1 3/16 miles, Dirt, Fillies, Three-years-old. Post Time is 5:44 PM ET.
FEARLESS from the two-hole is the 9-5 morning line favorite for trainer Todd Pletcher. The son GHOSTZAPPER comes off a narrow defeat to SILVER STATE in the Oaklawn Handicap (G2), but will seek redemption here with jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. onboard for the first time.
LAST JUDGEMENT will break from the outside for trainer Michael Maker at odds of 4-1. He was last seen finishing second in the Ghostzapper Stakes (G2), where he ran a quick pace early on but was overtaken in the stretch. The son of CONGRATS fired a 5F bullet on April 24th leading up to this race, going :59.8 as the fastest of 14 works at that distance.
MODERNIST breaks from the rail for trainer Bill Mott at odds of 6-1. We last saw him winning the Excelsior Stakes (G3) at Aqueduct. Jockey Junior Alvarado has ridden him in all nine lifetime starts and is back onboard for the task. The son of UNCLE MO hit the board at this distance back in March 2020 at the Fair Grounds.
Rounding out the field are: FOREWARNED, ENFORCEABLE, MAX PLAYER, PRIORITIZE, HARPES FIRST RIDE, CORDMAKER, TREASURE TROVE and ALWAYSMINING.
The $250K Black-Eyed Susan Stakes (G2) — 1 1/8 miles, Dirt, Fillies, Three-years-old. Post Time is 5:44 PM ET.
BEAUTIFUL GIFT at 9-5 looms a formidable opponent from the ten hole. She is trained by Bob Baffert and will be ridden by John Velazquez — the same team sending MEDINA SPIRIT for Saturday's Preakness Stakes (G1). The consistent daughter of MEDAGLIA D'ORO has hit the board in all five starts. She missed narrowly last time out in the Santa Anita Oaks (G2) but will try to redeem herself here.
ADVENTURING from post nine looks tough at odds of 4-1 from the Brad Cox barn. She'll run for Godolphin as she aims for her third consecutive victory. Last time out she won the Bourbonette Oaks at Turfway Park, where she earned her highest speed figure to date. Jockey Florent Geroux will ride her once again.
THE GRASS IS BLUE breaks from post eight at odds of 6-1 for trainer Chad Brown. She gets a break from having to chase down SEARCH RESULTS for the third consecutive time. The daughter of BROKEN VOW will race without blinkers, which she didn't need in order to win her first two starts. Irad Ortiz Jr. gets the call.
Rounding out the field are: ARMY WIFE, WILLFUL WOMAN, SPRITZ, FOREVER BOSS, LADY TRAVELER, ICED LATTE and MISS LESLIE.
