The undefeated MALATHAAT was thought to be a Belmont probable vying for a victory against the boys, but the decision has been made that the Kentucky Oaks (G1) winner and trainee of Todd Pletcher will instead point toward Saratoga.
"Todd and I have talked and have elected to bypass the Belmont. She is a little light right now because she is still growing in the frame that she has. We want to give her a nice break and hopefully put some weight on her," said Shadwell Farm's Vice President and General Manager Rick Nichols. "We will point her toward the CCA Oaks at Saratoga, which is twelve weeks from the Kentucky Oaks. Then we will aim for the Alabama, which is the main target, four weeks later. Then we will be able to give her a nice 10-week breather and head toward the Breeders' Cup."
Scheduled for July 24th, the $500,000 Coaching Club American Oaks (G1) will cover nine furlongs, the same as the Kentucky Oaks. The $600,000 Alabama (G1) is August 21st and covers 10 furlongs.
