We're more than two weeks past the Run for the Roses and several of our Derby starters are working out at Churchill Downs.

Brad Cox worked Godolphin's ESSENTIAL QUALITY this past weekend. The son of TAPIT worked 4F in :50.80, the 89th fastest of 96 works at that distance. Work was noted as "Breezing", and was his first work since his fourth-place finish in the Kentucky Derby, where he tied his highest speed figure in that effort.

The other Cox horse stretching his legs was the Juddmonte-owned MANDALOUN. The son of INTO MISCHIEF and runner-up to the Kentucky Derby also breezed 4F this past weekend going 4F in 48.20, the 13th fastest of 96 works at that distance.

Per KentuckyDerby official website, ESSENTIAL QUALITY is being considered for the Third Jewel of the Triple Crown, the $1.5 million Belmont Stakes on June 5th, 2021.

D J Stable's HELIUM, from the Mark Casse barn, also resumed his training. He registered an "easy" 4F in :48.80, the 33rd fastest of 96 works at that distance. According to Mark Casse's local assistant David Carroll, the lightly-raced son of IRONICUS could point to the $150K Matt Winn Stakes (G3) on May 29 at Churchill Downs.

O BESOS, owned by Bernard Racing, Tagg Team Racing, West Point Thoroughbreds, and Terry Stephens, is logging training time with jockey Marcelina Pedroza in the saddle. The son of ORB has been one of the more consistent closers of his fellow three-year-olds. He finished a game 5th in the Kentucky Derby while earning his highest speed figure to date. He, too, worked this past weekend, going 4F in 49.20 as the 42nd fastest of 96 works at that distance.

M Racing Group's LIKE THE KING worked out this past weekend, but under a new rider in Tyler Gaffalione. As the connections mentioned after the Kentucky Derby, the son of PALACE MALICE would try racing on the turf. They worked 5F on the Churchill Downs grass in 1:02.40, the 3rd fastest of 6 works at that distance. Trainer Wesley Ward said his colt could be considered for the $150K Audobon Stakes, run at one mile and one-eighth on turf, this May 29th at Churchill Downs.

SUPER STOCK recently logged his training time. He breezed 5F yesterday in 1:00.40, as the 7th fastest of 15 works at the distance.

Over at Santa Anita Park, HOT ROD CHARLIE turned in his first workout since his third-place finish in the Kentucky Derby. The Doug O'Neill trainee worked 5F this past Saturday in 1:03.80, the 57th fastest of 58 at that distance.

At Belmont Park, HIGHLY MOTIVATED from the Chad Brown stable worked 4F in 48.55, the 13th fastest of 64 at that distance.

SAINTHOOD from the Todd Pletcher barn also worked out at Belmont Park but on the Inner Turf, going 4F in 49.09 as the 5th fastest of 17 workouts at that distance.
