Woodbine Racetrack has a reopening date of no later than June 18th set to start its Thoroughbred racing season. The delayed season is a result of COVID-19 restrictions that are now being lifted by the Canadian government.
The Government of Ontario announced Thursday that they are implementing a three-step "Roadmap to Reopen" based on decreased daily COVID-19 case counts, lower hospitalizations and an increase in vaccinated residents. Live horse racing is included in the first step of their plan. The plan goes into effect on Monday, June 14th.
Woodbine Entertainment announced that the 2021 Thoroughbred season would commence on Friday, June 18th and will run through the weekend. It will then have a four day race week - Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The track will start its 2021 Standardbred season at Woodbine Mohawk Park. Racing there will resume on Monday, June 14th and will run five race days per week - Monday through Saturday.
