Just two months ago, GUN RUNNER got his first winner with the colt RED RUN on May 9th. Since that day, several more of his progeny have hit the wire in first, boosting the popularity of this Freshman stallion. The progeny of GUN RUNNER may be horses handicappers will want to keep an eye on.

As mentioned, RED RUN was the first winner for the sire. The colt won a five furlong maiden special weight for 2-year olds by 1 ¾ lengths at Churchill Downs in his debut. RED RUN is the first foal out of the unraced TAPIT mare RED HOUSE. She is a full sister to UNTAPABLE, who was a winner of nearly $4 million. This mare also has a yearling colt by GUN RUNNER.

After RED RUN, came PAPPACAP winning in the same week. Also in a five-furlong maiden special weight and also winning his first time out. The colt shook clear of his challenger and crossed the wire by 2 ¾ lengths ahead. PAPPACAP is out of the Grade-3 placed mare PAPPASCAT, by SCAT DADDY. He is trained by Mark Casse.

On June 5th, a filly named WICKED HALO also won her debut by two lengths becoming the third winner for GUN RUNNER. She covered five furlongs on a muddy Lone Star Park track. She is out of JUST WICKED, the Adirondack Stakes (G2) winner. JUST WICKED's full sister, MY MISS LILLY, won the Gazelle Stakes (G2). GUN RUNNER also earned his first international and turf winner with GRAN APLAUSO. Running at the Sapporo Racetrack in Japan, the colt won a 1200 meter turf race by just over a length. The colt drew an outside post in a field of 16 two-year-olds, but was able to get to the lead and maintain it. At the top of the stretch, he made his move, sprinting clear of the field for the win. He is the first foal out of FIDUCIA, by MEDAGLIA D'ORO. The stakes winning mare is the great granddaughter of Horse of the Year LADY'S SECRET.

Finally, GUNITE became the fifth first-crop winner of GUN RUNNER Saturday, June 26th at Churchill Downs. The colt beat a full field of 2 year old maidens going six furlongs. He did have a pair of near misses to start his career, but he pulled out a win on the last day of the Churchill Spring Meet. he beat the field by 1 ½ lengths. Trained by Steve Asmussen, he is the first foal out of stakes winner SIMPLE SURPRISE.GUN RUNNER now has five winners of 10 starters. His progeny earnings are $245,790. A great start to the freshman sire's career in the breeding shed.
