Sunland Park racetrack is positioned in Sunland Park, New Mexico, near the intersection of New Mexico, Texas, and Mexico. The track is a one-mile dirt oval that has steadily risen in importance in the world of Thoroughbred racing in large measure because of its marque race, the Sunland Derby. Held the fourth Sunday in March, the derby has an $800,000 guaranteed purse. Sunland also features Quarter Horse races as well, including the Championship at Sunland, a Grade I race with a guaranteed purse of $350,000.
Sunland Park also hosts ongoing simulcasts for off-track betting. The track is part of a gaming complex that includes both table games and slot machines. Sunland also boasts a boutique hotel with 78 well-appointed rooms. Fine dining is also a feature of the track venue with a restaurant and three grills serving different cuisine.
