Prairie Meadows offers a truly robust schedule of live races. Starting in early May, the track offers live Thoroughbred racing four days a week—Thursday through Sunday—plus holiday races. Thoroughbred racing continues through early September. Quarter Horse racing has some overlap with the Thoroughbred meet. Quarter Horses run three days a week, Friday through Sunday, from mid-August through mid-October.
As part of their racing calendar, Prairie Meadows hosts two graded stakes races. The Iowa Oaks Stakes is a Grade III 1-1/16 mile race for three-year-old Thoroughbred fillies with a purse of $200,000. The Prairie Meadows Cornhusker Handicap is also a Grade III Thoroughbred 1-1/8 mile stakes race for horses three and older with a purse of $300,000.
