Located in the lush Adirondack Mountains of northern New York above Albany, the Saratoga Race Course is legendary, and not just because—at 150 years old—it is one of the oldest continually operating sports venues. Saratoga is as notorious as it is beloved. Among its nicknames is "Graveyard of Champions" because so many prohibitive favorites were soundly defeated at Saratoga.
The well-developed area has three race tracks: an outer turf track that is one mile long, the main dirt track that 1 1/8 mile long, and an inner turf track that's 7/8th of a mile long (7 furlongs). The surrounding area is filled with many amenities for race fans and visitors. There are many lodging opportunities with a range of affordability, as well as campgrounds, bed and breakfasts, and rental homes. Accommodations and entertainment for children also abound. There is an abundance of fine dining opportunities. For those interested in spirits, many breweries, distilleries, and wineries are close by. The surrounding site's beauty is accentuated by the area attractions, which range from hot air ballooning to lake cruises to ziplining.
Saratoga also features OTB (off-track betting) through simulcasts seven days a week. Its well-developed website features information on horse betting from the simple lessons to the esoterics of handicapping.
